Definately do it. I'm about a month out and was around a group of people this weekend and 2 of the guys around asked my husband if I had lost weight and said I looked good. It was awesome that others are starting to notice. I too paid for my surgery but instead of getting a surgery loan I just applied for a zero interest credit card and paid for it on there. I have 0 interest for 12 months so everything I send will go straight to the principal. If I don't get it paid off in the year at that time I'll pay it off on another 0 interest until I pay it off. It's definately worth it!

You're scared of the unknown. Read through my posts of the past week. You would not be normal not to be second guessing removing so much of an organ from your body. What you have to realize is how much success would you be able to do on your own and MAINTAIN it? With maintaining over the long term.

I am 2 days out. I got discharged from the hospital yesterday, exactly 24 hours after having surgery to remove a Lap Band and have a revision to the VSG. I am still uncomfortable, it hurts to cough and I refuse to laugh at anything. Other than that it's not as bad as when I had my two previous c-sections because it's higher up in your chest.

Everyone has fears going into the unknown, it's normal. I am exhausted and uncomfortable but at the moment I'm glad to have that band out of my body and to be healing. Each hour is another one closer to a healthy BMI and weight for me. I almost cancelled several times myself. I did this for my kids. I'm starting to get excited though of the thought of being able to buy clothes that look nice on my body again and fitting in my leather jacket I haven't been able to wear in so long.

Take care and remember we are all here for you!!

Congrats! I'm in the decision making stage at this moment. Can you tell me about why you removed your band and elected VSG? I'm trying to decide which procedure and I'm leaning toward the VSG or the "Super Sleeve" Plication (VSP) just not sure at this point??? :lol0: The people I've known that were banded, didn't have great results but that could have been the Dr?? Or the individuals?? Very interested in your journey and what brought you where you are.

I was self pay too (well still am!) It has been a lot of work for me to be able to pay for this surgery and there has been no regret for me. If I had to pay 10x for it than I did I would. It is stressful admittedly to have both the burden of a huge life change and to take on new debt, but it has been the best gift I could have ever given myself. Good luck!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
