ladies, anyone having pms cravings?

Recommended Posts

Yep,yep, I feel like I could eat the paint off the walls a couple of days before my period. Twice now, I've thought: "Oh crap, my sleeve doesn't work. I'm going to gain all the wait I've lost." Then a day later, my period starts and I have very little appetite. My periods are irregular so I can't predict when I'm going to have these supercravings.

You are not alone.

You read my mind. I was almost in tears when I got my PMS cravings convinced that for some unknown reason my sleeve had quit working. I am glad I am not alone.. I guess the one good thing will be that with the weight loss vs the Water weight I am not gaining and when it was over I lost again. Whew.

I'm glad I'm not alone! In the week before my period, I really want carbs. Now I'm more maintaining than losing - and before that, even, I decided to just sort of give in to them but do it sensibly: I allowed myself some Cookies and stuff and it hasn't messed with my weight loss at all. The way they're so hormonal - the cravings - makes me wonder if part of the way I used to be a carb addict was hormonal, too?

Jolanda you pose a very interesting question. I guess I never really linked the two before but I am definitely on the carb bandwagon regarding hormonal cravings. I know they say you can become addicted to the carb rush but I have never considered the initial root cause being linked to hormones......I think I will look into that and see if anyone has researched it.

I totally get those cravings!!! The best thing to do in my opinion is indulge them, but reasonably. Figure out what would really satisfy, and have it in a small amount. If you try to just fill up on something else and be "good", the cravings just get worse. When I wanted chocolate i found a few M&M's did the trick. When I wanted cheese I had some good full fat cheese, just a small chunk. I have managed not to gain any weight at all, and still lose... so I guess it's working! It's my theory that denying what you crave leads to more overeating and poor choices in the end.

Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
