A question 4 Those who had TGVP...Have you ever vomitted?

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody

I'm now 6 weeks post operation & I've a question......

Whenever I read or listen about other surgeries ,I find that people suffer when they eat too much &they vomit, but I found that this isn't the case with TGVP.

A week ago,I had dinner at my friend's and I ate too much:crying: .....My stomach hurted me&I felt terrible:svengo:, but I couldn't vomit... I wish I could vomit that day coz my stomach was killing me.....Is this normal?Did anyone experience the same situation?

I would appreciate any feedback...:)

From what I've heard it is normal to have bad pain from overeating. But I've asked my doctor so we'll see what he says.

Hi Sarah. I had my plication three weeks ago, and I have never vomited. Twice right after the surgery I felt like I was going to, but just walked it out. I stop eating as soon as I feel that rock in my stomach, so I haven't overeaten yet. My time is coming, I'm sure.

I think that by time we'll understand our new stomach more and will know when it's time to stop.....I'm happy that I experienced that pain coz I now know that I'll never overeat again and I'll always remember to chew chew chew

Sarah, does your stomach growl a lot? It always feels empty, even after I eat.

No,my stomach doesn't growl a lot,but I've experienced that feeling of emptiness after I've finished the Fluid and the liquid phase but that feeling will decrease when you start to eat solid food .I remember that this feeling made me doubt the success of my surgery but it gets better by time..Good luck:thumbup:

Thanks, that's very encouraging. I started solid food on Fri. and have noticed somewhat of a difference.

Oh, I got sick today. Won't be doing that again anytime soon. I ate abotu 10 McD's fries from the kids meals and then about 5 minutes later had a few sips of ice Water. Stomach felt full and hurt but I have had that before. However, about 5-10 minute slater, I dry heave a few times and still felt no better. I then felt this slick stuff in the back of my throat - gross - that continued off and on for about 15 minutes. Then it all came up ... tons of slimy mucos and the fries. I guess I have been slimed.

Just trying to figure out if it was bec I added Water on top of the food or because I ate too much. Any thoughts?

Sorry Deb, but I've never been slimed. Did you have the plication or the sleeve? I don't think that happens with the plication, but I'm not really sure. When did you have your surgery?

Interesting topic, vomiting. I'm 5 1/2 weeks post op and right after surgery I was vomiting a lot. It has slowed down considerably. I still find if I eat too much after about a half hour to an hour I will vomit. It only happens about once a week now. I find it is hard to read my new stomach. Sometimes I feel hungry right after eating. I know I am full but have the hunger sensation. There seems to be no pattern to it. Other times I just feel full, no problem. I do hope I get this figured out. I always want to eat more than I should so that is something I need to deal with mentally. That small portion of food on the plate seems too small. My mind says, oh, you need more food than that! It's a mental game I know. I figure with time I'll get it.

I'm having the same issue and it is really getting frustrating. Today we were driving back to the office after a business lunch (I only had 3-4 bites of Mac and cheese as I won't eat anything really solid out in public yet for fear). I hope I get this thing figured out soon.

One interesting thing we have learned about procedures that make the stomach smaller is that cold beverages make things tighter than room temperature or warm liquids. Also, not drinking with meals helps prevent this kind of regurgitation. Ideally, drink liquids before a meal and once you start eating solid food, wait for one hour after to start drinking again.

I am nauseated everyday, but I am still only one week post op. I have vomited a few times but not because I have over eaten. It just seems to be because of the nausea. Has anyone else had nausea after surgery? Does it go away soon?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
