Canada- Out 'o towners, what did u pack?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone...

My surgery isn't for about 4 weeks, but I'm so excited that I'm starting to pack for my big trip to Ontario, now.

Here's my question:

What did any of you forget to bring, but wish you had when you went for surgery?

So far I've found so many good ideas like bringing my heating pad to the hotel, (and I'd better bring my rain gear if I'm going to do the tacky tourist thing in niagara)...I'd love to hear more if you got 'em.:)

Thanks!

Sunshine

since you'll be here for awhile; be sure to bring a small cooler and some baggies. You can put ice from the hotel into your baggies and put them in the lil' cooler....so when you are out and about you can have some "cold" liquids. I prefered mine cold. Others don't...depends what you like. Maybe bring a sippy cup too. Heating pad is a GREAT idea. And of course, your supplies (gasX, liquid gravol, liquid tylenol etc). If your hotel room has a fridge you can put popsicles (fat free) in the freezer.

hi there, I suggest when you get to the hotel go a grocery store and buy a case of Water. then you always have some handy. I also like having a box of mints nearby, that made me feel good when I wasn't into eating. of course don't forget a camera!

One thing I was SUPPOSED to bring with me to the clinic was a pillow for my stomach on the ride home. Forgot it at the hotel though! I was on Optifast before surgery, so I brought my magic bullet along to make shakes at the hotel. I brought my camera, but of course didn't take pictures! I always wanna kick myself for not doing that!

I didn't really bring anything special that helped me out.. but I'd recommend for the flight home (depending on how long it is) to make sure you bring a big bottle of Water with you, and make sure you get a comfy seat!

I got really hungry on the flight back, and ordered a cup of noodles, and tried to sip just the juice out of it. It was really gross. So if you think that might happen to you, bring along something you can 'eat'... whether its some kind of Protein drink (premixed or ready to mix) or maybe some kind of broth to add to hot Water.

Good luck! I was planning/packing/buying stuff the day I got my date! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
