WVLoser 0 Posted August 27, 2010 So last week I went to the informational session with my surgeon - I actually went up to her after the session and asked about VSG and if she had the specific surgical code for it so I could give it to my insurance. She was very nice and said she could not remember off hand, but to call her office and they could give it to me. I called - they gave it to me - I talked with my insurance and was good to go. Today the surgeons officed called and said that I was in fact a bariatric candidate (duh!!), however, they do not perform the sleeve!!!!! She said that if I wanted RNY we could proceed. Uggghhhhhhhh!!! Sooooooooo I hung up picked the phone back up and found another surgeon! Unfortunately I now have to wait another 2 weeks until their information session!!! I'm trying desperately to relax, breathe, and understand that this is just a rough patch in my overall journey. God grant me the patience!!!
goodlife 3 Posted August 27, 2010 How frustrating..and why didn't the surgeon say that when you asked her about it? Grrrr....
jamey 1 Posted August 27, 2010 Ugh! But you know, if she didn't really listen enough to hear you say VSG, odds are she might not really listen to any other valid questions or concerns you might have in the future. Could be a blessing in disguise. I am sorry for your the needless delay, i know you are excited to get going.
MINI-Me 196 Posted August 27, 2010 So sorry about that - how frustrating. But I agree, doesn't sound like this is/was the surgeon for you. Keep pressing on - you will find the right one & it will be the right timing for you!
wannalise 16 Posted August 27, 2010 I had changes in surgeon too. I didn't seem ideal, but I had an amazing experience and my friend who went with another surgeon has found some of her post op care frustrating. I think things work out! The rolling stones said it best, you can't always get what you want but if you try some times you just might find, you get what you need. Soon enough you will be well on your way! Keep posting and if you need a pep talk we are all here. Anna

Take it from me I totally understand what you are going though. I have been working on getting my surgery for almost a year now. I have had a lots of ups and downs. Just stay positive, and do not give up. I agree with the others about being a blessing in disguise. I went through the whole process had my date set with my surgeon for August 24, and on July 26th found out I had to go to a different surgeon, but have a new date with the new surgeon of December 2. Keep the faith.
WVLoser 0 Posted August 27, 2010 Thanks to all! Shaking this one off and trying to get my head into a better place. Lisa - I considered Dr. Nease as a possiblity - unfortunately he is 3 hours from me and this new surgeon is just an hour. Good Luck in December!!!
Papillon 7 Posted August 27, 2010 Hang in there... it can be frustrating getting through all of the requirements if you are using insurance too. UHC required 6 months of supervised weigh ins. We also went to the info session and then you have to wait for approval (3-4weeks) and finally schedule the date. All I can say is hang in there!! It will happen and then you will be like me sitting here thinking wow.. it is really going to happen. I started this journey over 8 months ago the next chapter is on September 13th. Thanks, I did not have a choice I'm going through the Hunington, VA hospital, and he is the surgeon that performs the surgery for them. I live 7 hours away . Have you heard anything about Dr. Nease. I will not even get to meet him until the morning of my surgery. Good luck with your journey.
WVLoser 0 Posted August 28, 2010 I have only read some things, but by all accounts he appears to be a very good doctor. I'm sure you will do great. He has quite a few VSG's under his belt and the facility looks very nice. Thanks for your support. My disposition is much better today and I'm ready to "get back on the horse"! I've decided to go ahead and start my 6 month diet documentation, in anticipation that this will be my next hurdle in getting my surgery date. Hope all is well with you ~ Take Care! Beth

I joined weight watchers, it is kind of pricey, but has been working for me I have lost 8 lbs the in the last 4 weeks. I'm averaging about 2 lbs a week. Good luck, and if you get down again you can always send me a message, and I will be able to cheer you up.
