Medical Alert Bracelet

Recommended Posts

This is a question for those that are further out. I was on the BE.com website and saw a link for a company that sells medical ID bracelets. I was wondering if anyone has gotten one since their surgery. Since they can be engraved with up to five lines of information, I was wondering if this was something I should be considering to alert medical personnel to the fact that I have had this type of procedure along with my other medical allergies that I have. I say medical allergies, I'm allergic to two types of penicillin that give me hives. That's about all I have. Any advice or anyone have one?

Its a good idea with the drug allergies even without the surgery I would.

There are differing opinions on the need for the Bracelet. But, I have one. Mine says:

Gastric Sleeve 6/10

NO blind NG tube

Allery to: list any drug allergies you have

Although many drs and pts don't see the need for one, my understanding is that a blind NG tube shoved into your small sleeve can rip a hole in it. So, I wear it to be on the side of caution.

I may not wear it forever. But, after the complications I have had and only 3 months out, I thought better safe than sorry.

If you want to see some REALLY nice choices, go to Medical ID Bracelets, Medical Alert Jewelry, Medical Alert Bracelets

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
