jenn20 0 Posted August 26, 2010 So my surgeon told me that I cannot have regular coffee, but I could have Decaf? why is that? Anyone know? I just think it's kind of weird... Also, is there ANY sugar that is somewhat healthy, sometimes i want to add a bit to my Protein Shake but i guess all sugar is bad?
lunarose 97 Posted August 26, 2010 Caffeine can dehydrate that is why they want you to avoid it.
BlackBerryJuice 349 Posted August 26, 2010 Ditto re: caffeine. And as far as sugar goes, I add honey or agave nectar to my yogurt for sweetness; and you can always use Splenda if you don't want the calories. Personally, I find that without honey and fish oil, it's hard for me to reach a decent amount of calories for the day.
LilMissDiva Irene 3,282 Posted August 26, 2010 Coffee can make your post-op alot harder for several reasons. One being that when we are addicted to coffee, when we come off of it, it can cause some pretty severe headaches. You will already be going through enough trauma without having to deal with the withdrawals. Second, caffeine has the tendency to dehydrate. Post op, its hard enough trying to get all your liquids in without negating some of it by draining it right back out. As far as sugar, I do use splenda quite regularly and the sweetness is quite similar to real sugar. Shouldn't hurt anything and Dr'ing up our Protein Shakes so we are more inclined to drink them as we should is always a good thing! :biggrin0:
