Looking For Lap Band Fill Doctor In Los Angeles Area

Recommended Posts

Just finished the procedure by Dr. Kuri in Mexico. Can easily make it across the border, but when the year gets more hectic, I'll want a fill doctor in Southern California (near Los Angeles). Any advice?

Dr. Helmuth Billy in Ventura, CA is a GReat band friendly surgeon. They are wonderful and very supportive. I can give you his info if interested. They are only 45 min from me in Van Nuys.

There's a Dr. Owens in San Pedro that I know will take Mexico Patients. I haven't seen him yet, but talked to his staff, because like you, I can go across the border, but might not want to later. Let me know if you are interested and I'll get you his info.

As for Fill Centers... I've been told by them for the last year an a half that a place was opening in Torrance "soon", so I really have a bad taste in my mouth about them. Just commentary.

sarah,

thanks for the reply. San Pedro is the closest address I've yet received so I would like the information. Do you have any idea how much it will cost for a fill? Dr. Billy in Ventura is thus far the most reasonable, but convenience DOES matter!

Ok so I am posting to a post a year ago but hoping someone see's this who knows about Dr. Owens. I was looking to his office to do the surgery, but at $17,000 vs $8500 I would rather see Dr. Ortiz (plus he's done so much more). But since he is 10 minutes from me (Dr Owens that is) I would love to see him for fills (after my first one by Dr. Ortiz.) Someone posted that he charges $250 a fill, is that still true and is that under fluro?

Has anyone see Dr. Owens? How do you like him?

Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
