soon2bskinny 0 Posted August 25, 2010 I had my sleeve July 31 and I know I don't need to get pregnant for at least a year, but I want to start trying as soon as my weight is stable. One of the reasons I had this done was because of infertility. Should I go back on birth control for a year? That would be most convenient, but I don't want to jepordize my fertility! Any Thoughts? Tiffykins 673 Posted August 26, 2010 My surgeon recommended 2 forms of bc just to because of the major hormone changes that occur with rapid weight loss. I refuse to use hormonal bc so we were a condom couple until we started TTC. I figured if I could still get pregnant on the pill, I would rather just risk a condom and leave the hormones out of the equation.
Donna4545 13 Posted August 30, 2010 I had been prescribed bc for my PCOS and it made me gain weight. I stopped taking it before surgery and I'm not going back. I was only on it for a year, but I put on 30 lbs in that year without changing anything else. Condoms worked for me for 20+ years, I'm sticking to them. wannalise 16 Posted August 30, 2010 I've never been on birth control, but all the hormonal changes that are already possible post op would make me hesitant to have another thing that can so strongly affect your hormones. Soon enough we will be able to be healthy Mamas. I am not a mom yet, but used to wonder what it would be like to be a fat mom and now I won't have to! Best of luck in your weight loss! Carrie 4 Posted September 3, 2010 (edited) I don't want to take over your thread. But for those of us who are interested in hormonal Birth control aka the pill, I asked Dr. J about the effectiveness of the pill post VSG in his area of this forum. I am awaiting his response as I noticed it hadn't been asked to him. Here's the link to the question and hopefully his answer: http://verticalsleevetalk.com/ask-dr-gregg-jossart/8778-effectiveness-birth-control-pills-after-vsg.html Edited September 3, 2010 by Carrie Added link to question. sleeveorbust 11 Posted September 20, 2010 I hate condoms! lol just throwing that out there... My hubby and I have only ever used the pill as our form of bc... And I know we don't want to be pregnant for at least 5 more years!.... This kinda sucks because I know we will have to go back to the basics but I am totally dreading it... I've always said once you go bare you never go back lol! Oh god!
Papillon 7 Posted September 26, 2010 Our nurse advised us to use two methods after surgery. So we picked up some spermacide and condominiums. lol
Carrie 4 Posted September 28, 2010 A quick update on me, I ended up getting the Mirena IUD for the second time. I had it put in the first time within a couple months of giving birth to my 2nd daughter via c-section. I'm not sure if it had to do with the recent childbirth or what, but it was horrible, the insertion didn't hurt but the constant spotting for 4 months made me switch. I went back on the pill, then had this surgery and wasn't sure if the pill was being absorbed being as I was spotting so much and I don't want anymore kids at least that's Hubby and my vote at this time thus nothing perm. I went back last week and had Mirena #2 placed. The insertion was extremly painful for some reason yet the spotting stopped after 2 days. So one body two totally different results with Mirena, the only difference is 2 months after childbirth vs almost 2 years afterwards.
