Ok I sleep on my side and I have been using a body pillow for a loooong time now...I started using a body pillow during my first pregnancy over 18 years ago. Anyhoo, after my surgery will I be able to sleep on my side and use my body pillow??? I really hope so (it's so comfy), I was planning to take it to the hospital with me :svengo:.

Thanks for your help:thumbup:

It really depends. The only way I could comfortably sleep was on my side. My friend who had the surgery 1 hour after me could only lie flat on her back. Won't hurt to try it.

I've been thinking about this... I sleep on my stomach so I know I'll have to adjust to something else, just not sure how that'll go. I hear sleeping isn't all that easy for the first couple nights anyway. I say bring it and see! Meanwhile I'll be practicing sleeping on my back.

The first week post-op, anytime I lay down on my belly or side to read or whatever, I'd put a soft pillow or a folded comforter underneath my belly and it helped a lot - it seems to distribute the pressure on the incisions so there's almost no pain. After about a week, I could sleep on my side quite freely.

My husband took it upon himself to get me a wedge so that I could sleep sitting up if i need to... He just had gallbladder surgery about a month ago and he hated trying to lay down, so he said he didnt want me to feel that pain.....I have already had a c-section and a hysterctomy all without the above mentioned wedge. Its funny how serious they take our pain when they actually get a glimpse of it. I do love the fact that he doesnt want me to hurt.....He loves me so!

I've slept with a body pillow for 13 years now, and because I was so round, and had such a huge belly. I could NOT sleep on my side for a couple of weeks. The gravity pain from my belly was just too much. I slept in my recliner for 2-3 weeks just because it was easier. Now with that being said, I did have a lot going on in my abdomen because I was a revision, plus a leak repair, so my tummy was put through a lot more trauma than other sleeve patients.

I love my body pillow. I am a side, stomach sleeper. It helped me to ease the pain of my incisions as well. It can't hurt to try to see what comforts you...

Sleeve 4 me- you are only a few days away, are you nervous, excited?

I'm sooo nervous and excited too! I can't believe tonight is the last night I am going to chew on anything until September 9th LOL! It's kinda freaking me out LOL but I'll live. I am totally going to take my body pillow with me to the hospital:biggrin0: thanks for the 411...

I sleep on my side also. The first night I didn't even try it so I couldn't tell you there BUT the second night I was able to. If I layed down and tried to turn on my side I wasn't able but if I sat on the bed and laid on my side then lifted my legs (had a bit of help somethings) then I was able to lay on my side. What is weird though is I have never slept on my stomach but the last few weeks I have been waking up on my stomach so I guess my body has changed it's mind on how I should sleep lol

I can finally answer this one I sleep on my side with a body pillow too. The first night at the hospital I didn't even try and because I had two things hanging off my stomach one a drain one a pain pump it won't have worked. I did not expect to be able to sleep with one last night but I did just fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
