What's for Breakfast?

I have a question for sleevers. What do you eat for Breakfast? I've returned back to work, which means I have to eat something quick but I'm getting sick of a scrambled egg every morning. I have never been a breakfast person! So this is new territory for me. Please let me know how you handle breakfast in the morning. Especially, what you do for a quick morning meal. Thanks so much!

When I am in a hurry, it's cottage cheese with a little apple sauce. If I have more time, I mix a little cheese and grits with my egg.

Because we don't have that hunger pain situation anymore, I drink my protien drink. It is quick and convenient and has good protien for energy. It usually holds me over until snack time or lunch. I keep the eggs, etc. for weekends when there is more time and I sleep in.

I have never enjoyed breakfast foods. So, I would stick with greek yogurt, and/or leftovers from the night before.

A staple in my diet early out was deli meat with flavored cream cheese, or a wedge of laughing cow cheese rolled up. They were easy, portable, and just enough Protein for me to count it as a meal.

Try kefir, it's a fermented milk drink. You should be able to find it at a health foods store, and possibly your grocery store, as well. I grew up on it, but I understand it's a bit of an acquired taste, so I'd start with a flavored one. I'm having a peach one right now, it's like yogurt with a tangy kick. If you like the fruit-flavored ones, you can progress to unflavored kefir, which has fewer carbs. It's a drink that's rich in bacterial cultures, too, so it's good for your gut flora.

I have a Protein Shake for breakfast every morning. I get the premixed ones from costco, and at 30 grams of Protein they give me a good head start on my protein for the day. I do have to drink them slowly because otherwise they upset my stomach, so I just take one to work, stick a straw in the container and sip the shake at my desk over the course of about 45 minutes to an hour.

My lil tummy doesn't really like food early in the day. I asked my dr about it and he said it was common. So I always have a Protein shake for breakfast.

I have to start the day with a Protein Shake or I won't get a good jump on my liquids and Protein for the day. On my day off though I like a little scrambled egg & cheese or boiled egg or PB. If I had access to it I would probably eat greek yogurt.

I used to take a fork and a small tupperware containing a couple of eggs and a knob of butter to work each morning. I used to make the scrambled eggs in the firms microwave using the tean and coffee milk when I started to feel hungry. As I had to leave early to avoid the traffic this seemed to be a sensible way round it.

O know it's still eggs but they are comfort food to me.

It's much easier if you plan ahead. Each Sunday night I hard boil and peel a few eggs and put them in individual baggies and store in the fridge. As I'm running out the door, I pop a baggie in my purse and can eat at work.

Sick of eggs? Try a small container of cottage or ricotta cheese sprinkled with a little bit of ground flax seed. Yum! How about little ham and cheese roll-ups, you can make the night before? I have also made little mini-quiches in mini-muffin tins and freeze a bunch of them. When you want a little quiche for Breakfast, just pop it in the microwave.

I've made this spinach mushroom frittata to take to work for breakfast. I make it on Sunday and it lasts all week as long as my Hubby doesn't get into it. It is very satisfying. Just pop it into the microwave for a minute or so. Enjoy

<LI class=plaincharacterwrap>1 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed thoroughly to remove liquid<LI class=plaincharacterwrap>4 eggs or equivalent egg substitute<LI class=plaincharacterwrap>1 cup part-skim ricotta cheese<LI class=plaincharacterwrap>3/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese<LI class=plaincharacterwrap>3/4 cup chopped portobello mushrooms<LI class=plaincharacterwrap>1/2 cup finely chopped scallions with some green tops<LI class=plaincharacterwrap>1/4 teaspoon dried Italian seasonings<LI class=plaincharacterwrap>1 pinch Salt and pepper, to tasteDirections

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together all ingredients until well mixed. Spray a 9-inch pie plate with cooking spray and fill with the spinach mixture.
  3. Bake for 30 minutes, or until browned and set. Let cool for 20 minutes, cut in wedges and serve.

I cut it into a serving for 8 not 6 which is plenty.

Most days I have a Protein powder shake, blended with Water or iced coffee.

If I have extra time in the morning or it's the weekend, I'll make 2 eggs with a tiny tiny baby potato and 2 cloves garlic (330 calories)--that's my single serving version of a Spanish Tortilla (tortilla espanola), which I love. It keeps me full a LONG time.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
