I am in my second week (was banded on 4/8) and am starting to go a little stir crazy!!!! I am fine all during the day until dinner time - I have 3 kids a mother and a husband to feed, so I have to cook dinner and for the last 2 days it has been driving me crazy!! I have been drinking the yougurt smoothies, apple juice, Water, and tea and I have been "eating" sugar free popsicles (1 a day), smooth sorbet and thinned yogurt. What kind of diets are (or were) the rest of you on for the first weeks after your surgery??? The only thing that keeps me going is my daily trip to the scale - I get so excited even if it is only one pound. Thank you for all the help you can give!!

The "liquids only" part of banding is a very small part. Good luck on everything, but are the other five people there too old/young/gone/frail to help out just for a couple of weeks? I'm not trying to pick on your family, just to mention that it IS hard to not eat and maybe you could send them out to feed themselves for a week or two? If not, then just hang in there, even if the post-op loss slows down (it often does)...but do whatever you can to make this difficult time easy on you. (I think many obese women are obese because food is the only thing we "do for ourselves" when there are other things we need more.)

Oh...your questions. I had "about one week clear" and "about one week full" liquids. I wasn't told to do sugar-free anything, with so few calories going in it didn't seem to matter. Do get some Protein in. Protein Drinks or the like will help with the hunger.

I agree with Sue. You can't be the only adult in that household who knows how to throw together spaghetti and meatballs! Let daddy do the lifting in the kitchen for a couple of days.

Don't let yourself get too hungry and making dinner won't be so hard. It seems to me that you should by now be able to go with a broader range of liquids, and that can include cream Soups and chowders. Egg drop Soup was one of my favorites--it's loaded with Protein and goes down very easily.

PS: Why limit yourself to one sugar-free popsicle a day? Just asking. They have like, what, 8 calories? If they help you get through this tough time, there's no reason to skimp. This is not a time to worry about calories, and concentrate on healing. Feed yourself, girl! ;)

Hi kataylee,

Wow, what a small world. I live in Troy MI now, but I used to live and teach in Saginaw. We are also very close in surgery dates and I am on the same step as you except I got moved to "mushies" on Weds. (10 days after surgery)

Where did you have your surgery?

If your hubby is not willing to help, try making dishes that are your least favorite that won't tempt you to eat---how about boiled cabbage and beets?? Wouldn't the gang love that.

Anyway, nice to see other MI people here!!

Greta
