How much were you exercising at 4 wks out?

Recommended Posts

I am 4 weeks, 4 days out from surgery and consider myself to be in a stall. Since week 2 I have only lost 5 pounds. I am not exercising yet and I wonder, is that the problem? I make or come close to quota on liquids and Protein and calories most days. If I only lose 5 pounds in a month then I am doing no better than if I had just dieted and exercised. Advice, suggestions?

Dont worry - you are in the 3rd week stall. We have all been there - check around on the posts. It eventually let's up. Just keep following the plan and start exercising as much as you can which includes walking. At 4 weeks out, I started back playing tennis lightly and now at 6 weeks out I can get more aggressive at exercise. Hitting the Y up today to start a program and use their indoor pool for laps

Hey Globetrotter... I was in a very similar position to you, I am now 6 weeks post op, and from weeks 3 until two days ago I didn't loose an ounce! It is frustrating and I too had doubts. Now the scales have moved a little and I have upped my exercise. At four weeks I felt like poo... I did a little walking but nothing much!

This is a great site and you will read plenty of others who have had the same experience... all I can do is to agree with them; be patient and let you body heal, eat protien first and watch your carbs and drink plenty of Water. I think I am going to be a 'slow' loser, but as long as I lose and not gain I don't care!!

Let us know how you get on... take care x

So this is the 3 week stall ... it happens near the 3rd week, and seems to last 3 weeks! Yuck. Well here is what I have available to me:

The Gym: treadmill, elliptical, bicycle, free weights. PS - it is 125 degrees here, all day.

The Food:boiled chicken, baked fish, canned tuna, deli meats, meatloaf, boiled veggies, manufactured shredded cheese, steak, swissed steak. Everything else is deep fried or pure carb or both.

The location: Iraq. US army fob.

So I get a to-go box every couple of days and load it up with the likeliest Protein foods, put it in my little refrdgerator, and nibble from it for days. One cup serving of the meatloaf has 33 grams of Protein but that's 8 ounces! It would take me 2 and a half hours to eat that.

I will admit that I could go to the gym super early in the morning, I really could. Yet every single morning that I wake up at that time, I feel soooo warm and cosy and relaxed in bed that I just don't bring myself to do it. My work day is already 12 hours long at best, doing more than that seems monumental. Plus I was really hoping to lose some weight before hitting the gym, at this size it is painful and laborious to attempt gym work.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
