Plateau'd Due to Busted Metabolism?

Recommended Posts

So I feel like I have stalled out-spent the last three weeks around the same weight. I have tried mixing it up with more exercise, etc but no luck. It has been 6 months since my surgery and I am worried that going so long eating too few calories has wrecked my metabolism. I have lost of lot of weight but I am afraid in the long run doing it on so few cals has slowed down my weight loss as my body thinks it is in the dreaded starvation mode.

Is it possible to have a psychological block to further weight loss? It seems far more complicated than "calories in vs. calories out" when I review my history. I have tried increasing cals for a few days and that didn't work. Nor did being more restrictive and increasing the Protein Shakes.< /span>

TIA for your insight and advice.

Hi freeToBeMe,

Sorry you are having a stall. They happen and I still don't really understand why. If you hang in there it will pass, and probably as you have been in it for a few weeks it will pass very soon. The only thing I can recommend is continuing a Protein rich diet around 1000 cals a day, plenty of walking and Water, and trying to forget about it for another month. Then get on the scales and see whats happened. try to concentrate on other things in your life and treat this as a mere incidental, it will keep your sanity!

Girl! I just came off a 3 1/2 MONTH stall. . . it's so frustrating, but this is when all you got comes into play! Be strong, keep going and hide that scale for a while. . .It'll come off. . . your brain now needs to catch up to your body! It needs to think about what has happened. . . Good luck and don't give up!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
