jenn20 0 Posted August 16, 2010 Hello, So I have been having trouble distinguishing hunger and fullness. It's as if It's all the same to me. I have to remind myself to get my Protein in and try to have half a string cheese or cream of wheat. I don't know when I'm full or anything. If I want I can have a whole string cheese plus a little cream of wheat, but from understood I should only be able to get in half a string cheese so I feel like I can eat more than I should. I do understand that everyone is different so I'm actiallty not too worrid about the amount of food that I'm getting in, the thing I'm confused about is that i don't know when I am hungry or full. I also can eat like a cup of cheerios with milk! and maybe even more but I'm always afraid to eat so I've just been eating a little hardly eating really since I don't know what i am feeling! The only thing I feel is that when I eat too fast there is a little pinch feeling and a little type gas and burp. Then I can drink or eat another bite? confused, please help. How much and what things were you guys eating about 2 weeks out?
Tiffykins 673 Posted August 16, 2010 Your stomach nerves have been cut, severed, and stapled off. You aren't going to get a full signal this early out. It may take you months to get one actually. This is why measuring your portions, and sticking to the meal plan is so vital during the healing process. Overeating can cause issues with your staple line. Scar tissue is developing over your staple line, and you don't want to be putting more in than the recommended amounts. It took me months to get a full signal, and to this day, 14 months out, all that happens is I get a little sniffle (which I just recognized as a full signal), and a hiccup. I don't ever "feel" full in my stomach unless I ignore the sniffle and hiccup and take one or two more little bites. I had to set a schedule to remind me to eat. I ate on those scheduled times, and no more than the guideline allowed. This kept me on goal for Protein, carbs and calories without issue.
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted August 16, 2010 I really couldn't answer that because I was on 10 days of clear liquid and 10 days of full liquid then 10 days of mushy food. So, basically, at your stage, I was still on liquids. Dr. aceves feels strongly that the staple line needs to be protected, and putting food against it is dangerous. That may be why he has never had a leak.
trouble 0 Posted August 17, 2010 I'm almost at 3 weeks and have been eating whatever since week two also. I'm still careful not to eat meats really but have the same problem. I feel like I eat too much and have a hard time knowing when I'm full. I feel like I'm hungry all the time but if I stop and really think about it I'm really not hungry in my stomach, my mouth is hungry. I think it's just an adjustment to the small amounts of food.< /p>

NtvTxn 1,262 Posted August 17, 2010 that's pretty cool...NEVER A LEAK? EVER?? that means that ALL his patients must "obey" the rules. now that is amazing! I really couldn't answer that because I was on 10 days of clear liquid and 10 days of full liquid then 10 days of mushy food. So, basically, at your stage, I was still on liquids.
