What Happens When We Take a Pill?

Recommended Posts

I needed a laxative so I went with the Miralax powder. This made me start to wonder what happens when we take a regular pill or capsule since we don't have big normal stomachs for it to dissolve in. Does this reduce its effect? I take Celexa daily so I am particularly interested in the answer.

TIA,

Pen

Nope, having a sleeve doesn't affect how we take pills at all. Yay! There are a couple of Vitamins though that do depend on the intrinsic factor our stomachs produce for absorption -- B12 is one and I don't know which other(s), but that's why we have to take them sublingually -- but as far as I know that's all that we have to account for.

Are the sublingual B12 by the regular b12 Vitamins? I have been looking for them, but they are doing a pretty good job hiding from me.

Yes they are by the regular B12 but you could also order them online at places like bariatricadvantatge.com or pilgrimspride.com

Thanks I'm going to go look for them again today, maybe they will jump out at me today. lol I even had my mom look for them, and she can not find them neither. Probably right in front of my eyes, and I just don't see them. I'm telling you they are playing hide and seek with me. lol Wish me luck today. I will find them today. lol:thumbup:

I've gotten my dissolvable B12 at both Kroger and Wal-Mart with no problem. They're pretty cheap and yummy too! I recently had blood work done. My Vitamin D was low, so they put my on a 12/wk prescription for it, but they said "your B12 was through the roof!", so I guess it's working well.

I get my B12 at Wal-Mart. They have 2 different strengths in the sublingual. I take the 2500mcg once a day. It dissolves in about 15-20 seconds and it tastes fruity.

Spring Valley 2500 mcg sublingual High Potency 60ct for $5 at Wal-Mart. It's always on the top shelf of the Vitamins, in a green bottle with yellow cap and label.

Iamsunshine,

Yea!!! Good job we know you could find them, And I am sure there were crazier people in Walmart.....

Lori,

Each person is different as well as each dr is different. My Doc has me on B12, Calcium, Iron, and a multi but if you feel fine lots of energy then dont worry till you get your labs back, but of course it would not hurt you if you decided to start taking them.

I am taking birth control but was told not to take pills for two months. What is the main reason for this? I don't believe by crushing the BC I am getting enough of it in my system. I will be 4 weeks out Wednesday. The pill is so small I wonder some days what it would hurt to take it. But obviously I want to follow doctor's orders too. Any thoughts?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
