Jane_J 117 Posted August 14, 2010 Hi Dr Jossart, I have been asked by a friend whether or not suffering from IBS would preclude her from VSG surgery? If not, what should she do, over and above what the rest of us had to do, post surgery to recover successfully? I have not got this problem so I cannot help her. Please could you give some advice here? Jane x
Lookinupin2010 0 Posted August 14, 2010 I have IBS and decided to not give that info to my surgeon. My PCP has it on his records, but somehow it was not brought up. I was just worried that it might keep me from getting the surgery, and knew from the years past what to do if I start having problems with it. Sometimes, I think my Constipation would not have been as bad after the surgery if I didn't have IBS...but now I take flax oil capsules every day, and don't have any problems. I can't get 25 grams of Fiber down a day...I'm 4 1/2 months out...but my Protein powder has 5 grams of Fiber in it...and I drink 2 a day. My veggie intake is practically nill right now. Raw veggies still make my stomach hurt. Your friend has to decide whether to tell or not....I just didn't want it to interfere with my acceptance with the insurance.
