Recommended Posts

Hi All, I have heard that Greek Yoghurt is a good source of Protein but while I was at the store getting supplies for my up coming sleeve I noticed that have around 20g of sugar so is it good to eat or not?

Thanks

Nancy

Super Walmart and Ralph's which is Krogers both carry it. Dannon makes some with flavors strawberry, peach, blueberry.

Look for the non-fat, plain variety. If you purchase the flavor, or fruit ones, you will get the sugar content.

With the plain, non-fat, you add sugar free pudding (the white chocolate tastes like cheesecake), or other flavorings to make it taste better.

I avoided the fruit or flavored varieties because of sugar and carb counts. I mainly used (and still use it) as a sour cream substitute.

Brown Cow Non-Fat Greek Yogurt had 23 grams of Protein per serving and negligible sugars carbs etc. 2 weeks out from surgery it took me 2 hours to eat a serving but it was great stuff, I drizzled honey on top (nut. said it was ok) and tapped some cinnamon and it was sooo gooood! =) Really wish I had access to it now.

Wait so I can add sugar free pudding mix right to my yogurt it? Does it really taste good? I will have to try this I been eating Greek yogurt but with the fruit at the bottom.

Yeppers you sure can, and if you pop it in the fridge for about an hour, I swear the white chocolate flavored sugar free pudding powder mix makes the icky, tart plain, non-fat greek yogurt taste just like cheesecake.

The lemon sugar free pudding is yummy too. I don't even make pudding with milk anymore, and I also make pies like lemon chess pie this way. I mix the pudding powder with greek yogurt, and toss it in a graham cookie crust, stick it in the freezer for 2 hours, and VOILA I have lemon chess pie.

Wow Tiffy, thanks! I'll be trying that one! As for ratios, you could probably add a little and taste test, then add some more till it's perfect.

Even with the plain, you have to read the label. Yoplait has tons of sugar--don't use it. Same with a few others I've seen. Dannon makes one with almost no fat and sugar, that's what I use.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
