what's the deal?? I'm hungry!

Recommended Posts

I feel so lucky reading all this. I get the empty feeling, but not true hunger like I did pre surgery and with the band (when I was, like nurse ally, hungry ALL the time.)

But I never take PPIs. Acid blockers, right? This subject has come up before and I've felt like maybe I'm somehow missing the boat. I have taken maybe 2 tsp of Mylanta since surgery and that's it. I don't understand the difference between you all and me. I think I do get that acidic burn occasionally, but nothing that I can't live with. Are those occasions harmful? Should I not ignore them?

I took mine originally because my doc told us to for the first 6 months, but I tested stopping them this last month and have not noticed-- I just have low acid production I guess. Everyone is so different in this regard and why some will need 40mg or more daily some will need 20mg daily and some will never need them--its all about how your body produces acid.

I am 4 weeks out and I feel hunger on a daily basis. I am also able to eat much more than I thought I would and have to consciously stop myself. I can easily eat a cup of food and I've never felt any pain nor had difficulty eating. Last night I had about three ounces of grilled chicken, a few bites of brocolli and about 10 tortellini. While I realize that is not a huge meal, I thought I would only be able to eat a couple of tablespoons this early on in the journey.

I am also able to take regular sized sips of Water with no trouble or pain. It feels like I never had surgery. I am happy about the no pain of course, but I do wish I would get full quickly and I just don't.

I haven't read all the replies so forgive me if I am repeating... every post op diet is different but at least for hubby and I, we are supposed to eat every 2-3 hours and we get hungry that often so that doesn't sound wrong at all to me.

Christie you're doing GREAT too! Congrats. whatever you and your husband are doing, it is working well for you.

I do think that it is very important to keep the right kinds of food handy to eat at that 2 to 2.5 hour mark when we get that "hungry" or "empty/achy" feeling. If you wait too long to make a choice, that's when I could get into trouble by eating something that is handy that I shouldn't be eating.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
