Loosing weight without fills?

Recommended Posts

Is anyone loosing weight without having a fill? If so, how long have you had your unfilled band and how much weight have you lost?;)

I lost 30 pounds in the 12 weeks post-op and pre-fill. I felt like I wanted to lose weight faster (!) and went and had my first fill. I should have waited longer - it's too tight at 1.4cc's in my 4cc band.

Good luck.

I don't have a fill (have 1.5cc in my band but that is only because the band would not fit around my stomach) and I have lost 25lbs. Probably could have been more but I haven't been to the gym in about 6 wks and been involved in a lot parties (cakes and ice cream). I am finally back on my regular diet and hope to start losing again.

I did at first - I lost over 20lb before I had a fill but I dont think I'd be losing now without a fill. I'm not tight at all, but I feel I would be returning to my old habits somewhat without something stopping me.

I was banded the 16th of May and am loosing pretty good. However I am still on puree moving on next week to mushy's. I am sort of afraid to eat because I don't want to start doing the things I did before the band!

I am 10 weeks post op. I did not do a pre-op diet and I have no fill. To date I have lost 59lbs .

59 pounds in 2 1/2 months? Is that right? If so, what are you eating? What was your starting weight? I'm only asking because that seems like an awful lot of weight loss in a very short period of time.

I was also banded on May 18th and have not had my first fill but have lost 28 lbs..They used the 9.75 Inamed band on me and the doctor said it may provide some restriction right from the start..So far so good....:clap2:

Donna, check out my profile, the link is in my signature. My whole looong story is there!

Believe it or not I eat ALOT compared to what I am reading others eat. Actually, I eat like a normal person. I am, on no particular diet, but I am mindful of what I eat and my portions.

I started at 277 and did not pre diet. I do not use diet products other than splenda or stevia in my drinks. Even when I was on liquids, I dranked the regular Carnation Instant Breakfast.

I also walk about 3 miles 4-5 days a week.

I drink loads of Water also.

I think that if I had a fill I could lose even more, because my portions are not as small as I am reading other bandsters with fills have. However, I have decided to work with an empty band as long as I can. The reason being is that there are no garantees that I will always have ths band. If for any reason I may have it removed, I wouild like to be eating as normal as possible in hopes of maintaining and/or continuing to lose on my own.

I don't no see I was banded on May21st, lost 15 pounds then started eating normal and gained 3 pounds back all this in a 3 week period of time. Very confused I am cause I don't wanna eat foods if the weight is just gonna pile back on, I have no restiction drnking or eating everything is like normal which is scary to me. I drink 2 Protein Shakes a day 50grams Protein then get the rest from lunch and dinner. Haven't snacked but not drinking enough Water. I kinda thought this would be a bit easier. Think I need a fill already for some restriction. ALso is anyone here able to drink real well . I don't have to sip I can drink normal have no problems at all. Maybe I strectched the pouch already....................

I lost a lot of weight before my first fill, but I lost the weight because I was naive and afraid to test the limits that I was told not to exceed. After the second fill, I started having problems. Maybe the band was too tight, but they tightened it more as a cure for my problems.

Now, years later, I have an empty band and it is almost like having no band at all.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
