Well, I just turned 30 and just had surgery, and excited to not be overweight for the "rest" of my life... as I have a lot of life to still live!

I would have leapt at the chance... my skin wouldn't have been so ravaged by yoyo dieting over the past 20 yrs - I would have been a healthy weight for the previous 8/10 years which to me would only have been a bonus.

yes!!!! In a heartbeat!!

If you were given the choice to have wls in your 20's would you have done it?

I'm in an opposite situation. I'm 22 and would have waited a few more years if possible, but who knows if my future health insurance will cover WLS. My parents' insurance did, and I'm only covered until my 25th birthday, so I got it done now. (Plus, I knew deep down that I would never lose the weight anyway)

I wasn't ready. I was desperate to lose weight and would be thrilled if I could have avoided ten more years of obesity, but I was not emotionally ready for all surgery and life after surgery bring. For me I think it was no accident that I was able to have surgery at this point in my life.

I think every case is individual and I would point to genetics. When I was in my 20s I started to struggle with weight having had it as a minor issue previously but was so active, I kept it under control. But like my father, when I hit 30 and things started to slow down activity wise - the weight exploded. Seems this is all throughout my family. So if I had a lifelong issue of obesity and I saw my family genetically with the issue, then I would have done it. But if I could overcome on my own in the past and I didnt have genetics in front of me as I do, then I would have kept trying on my own. I just did it at 40 and maybe wish I had done it at 35 now but I dont think I would have been ready then as it was not an 'issue' long enough to be mentally prepared.

Unfortunately I really am like Cartman on South Park as he screams - I'm not fat I'm just big boned! Apparently my natural frame is large (ex lineman in HS) so even my NUT says I probably wont ever get below 220 (6 ft tall) and she feels 230-245 range would be very successful for me.

Absolutely! I struggled with my weight since childhood, and got really big after giving birth to my son at 27. I would have jumped at the chance to have had this surgery back then.

If I had Known about this when I was in my 20's I would have done it. I have had weight issues since childhood. So now at 50 all I can think is I could have been at a normal weight for 25years atleast by now.But better late than never.

Get on a solid weight-lifting program as soon as you're cleared to work out hard....it will do wonders.

I am 23 and i'm glad I did it! I feel like I have a second chance at life.

My only worry is I'm down 27 lbs in 30 days. I'm very happy about hitting goal; just a little worried losing weight this fast means Ill have issues having enough weight. Wow, I honestly never thought I would worry about losing too much weight!

I looked into WLS in my 20s before marriage and kids and such. But at the time RYN was my only option and I just wasn't ready for that change. I went through all the pre-op hoops, all I had to do was sign the surgery consent. But when the time came to sign, something stopped me. 5 yrs later I met hubby, he loved me plus size. After the kids and 5 yrs of marriage. The time is right. Even though he loves me plus size, he want me to be here for him and our children. It's time for me to start living for them. We tease that we just need to make it to our golden 50th but at my weight, I don't think I would. 10 yrs later, three kids later, the VGS is available to me and I'm grabbing it with both hands!!!

I am 29, and just had surgery last month. I'm hopeful and glad that I will be looking better at 30 than I ever did in my 20s. I actually started looking into weight loss surgery when I was 20ish, and since then, I had just gained more weight before having this done. I'm glad I'm youngish and having this done. I don't want to be fat anymore, and although I would have liked to get rid of the last 9 fat years of my life, I think this was about the perfect time for me.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
