Hi I had my sleeving done in June 2009 and have lost 60kgs and feel great :001_tongue:

I still have a bit more to loose but if I dont loose any more weight I am happy with what I have achieved.

What I would like to know is can the stomach pouch stretch ??

Also I have noticed that you guys talk about eating a certain amount by weight at each meal where as I was never told that but I can only eat a small bowl full anyway.

Having the sleeving done in Australia is realativly uncommon and so I only know 2 ppl who have had it done and one of them I chat to through the internet so I feel like a lemon on an orange tree and haven't been able to compare notes with anyone so I am glad I have found this site :)

Hi Ruth,

I am in the UK and only now are we getting more VSGers here too! I am nearly 15 months out and I think my capacity is pretty static now. I still have massive restriction, my surgeon aims for a final stomach size of 125cc-150ccs. He roughly uses a size 40 bougie guide to do this. I think we do not get pouch stretch like bypass patients do because we are left with only the muscular and nonstretchy side of the stomach, whereas bypass patients get a stomach made of the top part of the stomach including the stretchy part. At least that is how I understand it, so you cannot compare outcomes with bypass patients.

All the best,

Jane x (the Pom)

Hi Jane,

I am originally from England so being the pom is ok :001_tongue:

My doctor said my stomach was the size of a banana though what size banana I haven't worked out yet lol

To drink an Optifast which is 200mls would take me about 15 minutes I cant just drink it in one hit. I eat less then my 3 yr old granddaughter does so it does make you wonder how we survive on such a small amount.

Hi Ruth,

Where in England were you from originally? The past year has made me realise exactly how much more than I needed I was eating. I think you will definitely manage to eat either the same or slightly more than your granddaughter but not for a good few months yet. We have our daughters Australian b/f staying with us at the mo, he's from Perth, and our Australian links are good. We plan to visit over Chrismas if we can.

Hi Jane,

I was born in Bury St Edmonds but home was a little village called Woodham Walter in Essex near Chelmsford. My Aunty and Uncle still live there.

Your daughters b/f is about 4.5 hours drive from me and I live in Geraldton so a small world

As far as the eating goes I think after 15 months if I cant eat any more then the grandies now I dont think it is going to happen not that it worries me but is a topic of conversation at times

Welcome to the board!! There are a lot of wonderful posts on the forum. I am really glad that I found this place too. Everyone is willing to share their experiences and offer advice. It has helped me to make a more informed decision about my surgery. I am scheduled for September 13th.

Ruth, hi. I'm in Melbourne right now and got my sleeve done here, although I live in the US. You should check out gastricsleevesupport.com, great site based in Australia with lots of sleevers who have state-based meetups etc.

I am only about 2 weeks postop, so I can't help on the stomach stretching, but I don't think so - it's just not physically possible to jam that much food in, I don't think. The scarline is very rigid too, so that wouldn't be able to stretch.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
