Is VSG appropriate for me?

Recommended Posts

I have decided on VSG but wonder if it is the tool I will need. I am 39 y/o, 310 lbs, 5'7", BMI 49ish. I have DM2, HTN, asthma (with freq exacerbations due to weight, necessitating prednisone). I lose weight easily, but I have problems keeping it off. My goal is to lose 150 lbs minimally; 170 lbs would be better.

My problem is stress eating, Portion Control, and head hunger. Can I possibly succeed with VSG only? That really is my WLS of choice. I want to be sure I am choosing the best tool for long term success.

Any advice would be appreciated.

VSG is the best surgery choice for anyone. The band is a nightmare. Having silicone wrapped around soft stomach tissue is dangerous and causes all kinds of tissue damage. It can damage your stomach to the point where it has to be removed but your stomach tissue is too damaged to have any other type of weight loss surgery.

The gastric bypass stomach stretches out over time, and most patients gain their weight back, but still have to be vigilant about taking Vitamins the rest of their lives because they will never again absorb nutrients out of their food.

The sleeve is the perfect choice because it's made from the part of the stomach that is muscular and does not stretch. You can have head hunger with any kind of weight loss surgery.

Yes you can and in your shoes I would go VSG.

PS Asthma is horrible isn't it. I had it since I was 5, now 51. It has been really bad in the past, I also have some elements of COPD as a result. However I now have no symptoms at all, and have stopped all meds!! I never thought that would happen!

My asthma gets scarier and worse every year. I developed it at age 34. Although it is common in my family, I only developed it after I gained a significant amount of weight. I hope WLS can curb it.

I take a multi Vitamin, Calcium citrate, B complex and Biotin.

My vit. D is 50,000 units and I take that once a week. I also take Iron every other day.

The sleeve is a good choice for you. However, your BMI is close to 50 and you are diabetic. With that in mind, the Duodenal Switch will give you a better chance at losing 150-170 pounds and has a 100% cure rate of diabetes. The trade off would be more side effects from malabsorption, most of which are well controlled with diet.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
