No regrets, but I wish I had prepared myself better beforehand. I had hoped to keep my band, but opted for VSG if that wasn't possible. I had the mindset that the band was staying and going to work properly again. I really didn't mentally prepare myself for this surgery and all that goes along with it. It's been very different for me than post banding was. I'm glad it was all done in one surgery and I'm sure my head is going to catch up. But right now I'm just not quite there yet.

I've had a few whiney days where I want to be able to wolf a burger, drink diet coke in MASS amounts. But I've had no days where I wish that I could only buy jeans in a fatty store, I don't miss being a 20 something and being told my cholestorol was outrageously high. I don't miss cringing when my boyfriend would touch my stomach when he hugged me. So I guess you get to weigh it, feel energetic, more attractive, and reduce your risk for almost every health calamity out there....or?

No regrets! Except, that I regret not doing it sooner!

Nope, not one, single solitary regret. . . Even with all my complications, I would choose to revise to VSG again. I would go through every struggle and challenge that I endured the first 2-3 months post-op to be living this life that I have today.

No regrets. I had complications, too (lost a lot of blood in the first day after surgery & had to have it removed surgically the day after) but I have also lost ALL my excess weight in one year and intend to stay this thin for the rest of my life. No regrets - or rather, I wish I had done it ten years ago! But this is good, too...

As others have stated, I only regret not doing it sooner. I fought this weight issue for almost 20 years and was determined not to give into the idea of having surgery to correct however looking back, it was worse on my body to be 250 pounds and then lose down to 130 and then back up to 180 and so on... I know I had to be ready for this mentally and I can say that in my 20s, I probably was not there. What I have learned since having the surgery is that noone can EVER tell me I took the easy way out. This is not EASY. But it is WORTH IT! I like the fact that it is not a cure all, I still have control over my progress (for the most part, minus the stalls) and I am accountable for what I put in my body. The difference between DIETING and having the SLEEVE is that you wake up every morning with a renewed sense of control with the SLEEVE (a new beginning to make great choices each day) and with DIETING it seemed I never had control and got less and less interested in even trying.

I look forward to reaching GOAL for sure but the journey is what teaches us the tools we need along the way.

Just today I am six weeks post op.

Lap-Band regrets? YES

Sleeve regrets? NONE

I love my sleeve so much that if I had to get the band first to get my sleeve, I would even do THAT all over again. Any day. I'm down 22 Lbs since surgery day - and every single day I get smaller and smaller. It's to the point now that I'm getting comments and compliments DAILY. It's very nice, and it makes me want to try even harder.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
