:clap2: I just found out last week that my insurance (United Health Care) will pay for the Lap Band procedure. I was shocked!!!!! :faint:

I tried 2 years ago and couldn't get approved (different insurance) and we just couldnt afford to pay out of pocket. Anyway, I finished all my precertification stuff today and by Monday everything should be off to the insurance to await the approval. My office coordinator told me that often UHC approves before I am done meeting with all the dr's, nutritionists, psych ect... so I am just thrilled and terrified all at the same time. It all seems so fast, I am not sure if that is good or bad or both. I have spent alot of time researching and reading about the lap-band and am sure it is the right decision for me. But it all seems surreal and I am scared of failure to not lose weight.

Well, I would keep going but I would just start to ramble... So here is some basic info.

I live in Fort Worth, TX and my Surgeon is Dr. John Marsden and I am working with AIGB. The surgery will be an out patient type. 10 days prior I will be on a protien shake diet (I am just thrilled ;) ) then 2 weeks after Clear Liquids to thick liquids then I start mushies for the next 2 weeks. I can't imagine that I won't loose some weight just doing that. My current weight is 287 @ 5'6" size 24 to 26. - How do you get those pretty vine things for weight loss measurements???

Well that is it for now, I will let everyone know when I am approved and the surgery is set!!!

That's great! I also have UHC and my doctor told me it would be about 2 to 3 weeks to get approval from them. I am from Houston, Tx. I am also excited and nervous like yourself. I saw my doctor on May 31, so I will call them next week to check my status, unless they call me first. Let me know if you hear something from your doctor's office, since we have the same insurance. I will post here, as soon as I know something. Good luck!

Congrats and by the way UHC does approve QUICK! I was approved in 11 days total. Although I am approved, I still have the upper Gi and all the blood work to do. So I am crossing my fingers that I get it done in July... Good luck.. :clap2:

:wow2: Thanks for the support and feedback. I will post here when I get more news. Waiting stinks but it will be worth it. I am hoping to get my surgery in July also because I have a 6mo old and need my 8 yr old to help me pick her up. Also, my best friends daughter(12 yr old) said she would come and stay with me to help out with Abby. School starts Aug 9th.

Well, thanks again for the feedback. I will cross my fingers and say a prayer  for you both to get your surgery soon too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
