Question about the Pre Op Diet...HELP!!

Recommended Posts

Friends, I am having surgery next Friday the 13th. I am on this HORRIBLE liquids only diet until Friday. I was wanting to know if anyone has any helpful broths, Protein shakes, yogurts, etc. I am only allowed 3 Calcium daily, and a TON of broth. I need to consume 100 ounces of liquid daily. Anything is appreciated  Looking foward to FRIDAY :) Super excited!

Also, does anyone have anything they can recommend for the post op diet day 3-10. It looks like very thin liquids, Kinda like a stage 2 baby food. Just wondering :cursing:

Thanks a million for all your fabulous ideas~~~ :crying:

Look carefully at your surgeon's instructions. Days 1-4 are usually Clear Liquids. You can have non-carbonated diet drinks, unjury chicken broth Protein powder ( a few sample packets will do), and Isopure Plus 8 ox RTD Protein Drinks. This way you can get Protein and fluids in at the same time.

After that you will probably be moved to full liquids, which is cream Soups (strained), Protein shakes. This stage doesn't last very long.

Baby food comes later, in the mushies stage. I wouldn't eat baby food 3 days out --you could do damage, or it too much strain on your stomach, which is trying to heal.

After than you go on soft solids, and then solids.

At least this is program. Did your surgeon give you a nutritional plan to follow?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
