Question about weight loss slowing!

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I had my sleeve done July 13th. It's been nearly a month and I love lost 24 pounds, which I am very excited about. However, my iss is that of the 24lbs, 21 of it was lost in the first week. Now....one pound a week. I figured at first that it was probably because it was sooo mcuh weight loss so quick, so my body needed to calm down and then I would start losing again. But, it's been weeks and only losing a pound here and there is really frustrating!!!! I suppose it wouldn't be so bad, but when you are barely eating and still not losing weight...it's upsetting!

Is this normal?! Did everyone else go through this? I'm getting 60 grams of Protein in, I'm drinking at least 64oz of fluids...help!!!!!

Thanks,

Merry

My surgery date was July 7 so I'm a week ahead of you. I think your weight is right on target. I have lost 28 lbs. I just went thru over a week of not losing. I would say dont sweat it. Your body is still adjusting. For myself, my period came a week early (even on the pill) so I guess I can get ready for the second week in a row this week.

Anyway, I wouldn't be concerned for another couple of weeks. Besides at 600 - 800 calories a day, you have to lose.

By the way, congrats on the Water consumption. I can only seem to get in 1/2 that amount.

Thanks so much for your response! I was starting to feel like I was going to be the only one that wasn't going to lose any weight. I know that, that type of thinking is just crazy, but I suppose after so many failed diets you just start to freak, you know?!

Man that first stall was a killer. I thought for sure I had bought into another weight loss dream that wouldn't come true. My weight loss is still kind of slow... one and one half to two lbs a week (none this week... very discouraging). The point I have to hold on to is that it IS comming off. Depending on your BMI... I imagine youre loss will speed up once your body adjusts.

Hand in there... in a few months you won't believe you were even worried about it.

Thanks for all of your posts! I think I was just freaking out because after failing soooo many diets, it's strange to think that this IS going to work, you know?! It completely makes sense that after losing such a large amount of weight so quickly that you body needs a second...just is scary!!!

Thanks again!!!

Merry

The temptation all of us lifetime dieters have is to restrict food even further when you don't see the scale move. Don't fall into this temptation--eating less calories will make things worse. If anything most stalls come when people are staying under 600 calories. If you are doing any activity at all this is way too low. shoot for 800 to 1000 calories to rev your body back up. Many people early on in this surgery have broken stalls by eating more and getting your body out of starvation mode.

Watch your carb intake. Carbs are sneaky and there are more carbs in foods than people think. The best weight loss is usually when you are consuming 30 or less carbs per day.

Other than that, stalls are normal. Your body needs to adjust to it's new weight before it decides it will give anymore up.

I have been losing about .5 lbs a day but on my pre-op diet I couldn't eat and now that I am post-op I haven't started it back up. I get full so fast I cant imagine adding bread back into my diet. BUT even still last week (3rd week) there were a few days I gained half a lb instead of lost. I know I shouldn't scale watch BUT I cant help it.. lol.. Now I am a month out and it is back to half a pound a day.

Thanks again for all the poss! I just got on the scale yesterday (exactly 4 weeks after surgery) and I've lost 3 pounds!!! Thank the good lord! I took everyone's advice and started taking in more calories and watching my carbs and that seemed to help. Hopefully the weight loss will keep coming as I have now lost 28 pounds!

Does anyone know what the average weight loss is per week?!

Merry

Thanks for all of these posts guys, it has been helpful reading them. I am new to this site. I am 7 weeks out of surgery and have lost 42 pounds so far..my BMI started at 35 and now at 29, but for the past week I have bounced .5 lbs up and down... very frustrating. My dietician said to eat 800-1000 calories a day, but I can barely get in 600. Drinking Protein Drinks and still soft foods, but getting in 90 grams of Protein. Any advice? Resistance training 2 times a week and a very active person....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
