Sleeved on Tues 8/3 - doing fine

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on Tuesday, 8/3 by Dr. Genaw at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. I had a wonderful experience, Dr. Genaw is terrific - caring and compassionate and a great surgeon. The staff at the hospital were kind and professional. The room was unbelieveable, like a very high end hotel, private room and very comfortable. I was off the pain pump the next day and only have had one dose of plain Tylenol since and I am very comfortable. I have only occassional "twinges" at my sites when twisting or changing positions. I am learning the new signals my tummy is sending me and am able to take medium sized sips without discomfort. It sure is a noisy little bugger though !! (lol)

The only problem I am having is taking my dang pills....I have to crush them and they taste soooo bad that they make me gag...not a fun experience. My nut suggested I use cool whip and form a little nest and put the crushed pill in then cover it over to keep the taste of the pills out of your mouth. I then chase it down with a bit of Water. It works pretty well, but it's very time consuming, my 4 morning meds take about 40 min to get down. The four spoons of cool whip preclude me from taking anything else in for quite a while afterwards. Anyone tried something else that works??

Otherwise I am a happy camper!!

Tomorrow I start full liquids. Yippee!!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
