1st time posting as POST-OP!

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I am happy to announce that I am officially "post-op" I was sleeved 8/4 (2 days ago) I am currently still in the hospital and In a bit of pain/discomfort. I am having trouble urinating and passing gas. For some reason I just can't do it. I have a feeling until then they will not release me from the hospital! GRRR. But I'm walking ALOT and today I start drining fluids. 30 ML an hour.

The first day of surgery I was in so much pain all I did was whine and sleep. Yesterday they had taken out the Katheter but had to put it back on because I wan't urinating. This morning they took it back off though! yay.

Anyhow. I just wanted to share that I am post-op now!

anyone remember not being able to urinate or pass gas? any suggestions?

Thank you and god bless!

I couldn't pee, but I pointed out to them that of course I couldn't pee--they hadn't been giving me anything to drink! The IV evidently wasn't cutting it. They called the doc, and he gave the ok to discharge me with instructions that I call him if I didn't pee in 24 hrs. I did. I only spent 1 night in the hospital. I didn't have any gas that burping couldn't cure.

I had no problems with pain except in my left shoulder (and that went away when they took the drain out).

That said, everyone has a different experience with surgery, and I'm sure you'll be fine.

peeing was hard for me too.. I just couldn't get my muscles to work. It was like I couldn't relax and go. I just did a lot of sitting and trying to relax. I was able to go the same day as surgery it just took a lot of "practice".

I had a spinal block and had some trouble getting the muscles below my waist to perk up so going pee was difficult for a while too. That and not drinking fluids! Good luck, soon enough this part will be a distant memory and you'll get the chance to move on to new challenges and learn a lot about yourself, all while shrinking your booty!

Yay! What kind of anesthesia did they use, did you get a spinal? Just wondering re: pain for my upcoming procedure.

Congrats on join the Post Op ranks! It gets better. I was sleeved on July 26 and the pain is beginning to subside and I begin soft foods in 2 days. I have actually started back to work this week and I do recommend buying a belly binder to wear after about day 4 or 5 to cope with the pain while still trying to be mobile and walk some. Take care and good luck!

My husband couldn't pee after his appendix surgery and he was in some real pain sweating and turning red. One nurse told him that he wasn't trying hard enough. Luckily a shift change happened shortly after that and the new nurse after checking his chart came straight over, asked if he was in pain. When my husband said yes, the nurse immediately recathiterized him. He filled almost two bags with urine. The nurse said his bladder was so full, the swelling sealed his urethra shut. He just has a strong reaction to anesthesia and it takes his body about twice as long to recover.

Hello TX HS FB Coach,

I'm new to the forum, I'm just wondering what is a belly binder? I'm 5 days post op, and looking to find some comfort with my belly and/ or incisions?

Hi and welcome to the losers bench.

I had problems peeing as they wanted me to measure everything I peed, so gave me a tub to put in the toilet which was uncomfortable to sit on.... so relaxing was an issue!!

I wasn't released until I was up to 1litre a day... which was making sure I was hydrated enough.

Good luck

An abdominal binder is just a wide elastic belt that gives some support to your abdomen. Some people might find it helpful, but my wounds just aren't sore now that I'm 12 days out.

I also had trouble urinating. It was so weird because I knew I had to go but couldn't. The nurse gave me something in my IV and I went instantly. I was just a few hours post op and little loopy so I didn't think to ask what it was. I usually always ask what the med is before I accept it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
