I'm back in the groove!

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on March 17 and lost a good amount of weight in the first month. But in June and July things slowed down to a crawl. In June I only lost 1.4 pounds, even though I was keeping my calories under 900 per day. I was so depressed and just at my wits' end!!

In July I decided to step up my exercise a little, and I also re-focused on getting all my Protein in. I doubled my weekly tap dance classes to twice a week, I added in a nice power walk a time or two a week, and two weeks ago I bit the bullet and signed up for personal training at the gym.

Lo and behold, in July I lost 7.4 pounds and am almost halfway to my goal sophomore-in-high-school weight! I am fitting all the smallest clothes in my closet and am feeling great! Plus it feels great to be back in the weight-lifting groove.

And here's something funny: In July my calories were about 1,000 per day average, and I still lost a ton more weight than I did in June. Maybe it was the exercise, maybe it was because I was super careful to get in at least 60 grams of Protein, maybe I needed more calories to lose, maybe my body just needed some time to get out of the dreaded 150's. Whatever it is, I'm really happy to be back in the groove!

Keep up the good work and way to go!! I do think that really working hard to get lots of exercise has helped me lose the weight. I also started as a light weight and am 50 with a metabolism that isn't like it was when I was in my 20's. We both had our surgery in March and will be at goal before we know it. Keep working it!

good for you. . . in 3 months i only lost 15 lbs and didn't much like that either. . . spoke to my doctor who suggested that maybe mix things up a bit and the weight would come off quicker. . . so i stepped up on the eliptical and treadmill a bit and a bit more Protein shakes and less carbs. . . sure enough, there it went. . . good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
