    • I swallow small pills normally but crush/break/use liquid rather than take large pills.

    • I take my medications normally.

    • It depends on my level of restriction. If loose, I take pills normally. If tight, I break/crush them or take liquid.

I haven't had any trouble with pills but I haven't had to take any big pills since my second fill so I don't really know.

I take Effexor everyday with no problems. It is in capsule form.

Once when I got a migrane at my daughter's house, all she had for pain relief were large capsule things. I had read that you can soak jell-tabs in warm Water long enough to make the outside soft and gooey, so I took these capsules with warm Water and let them sit in my mouth and soften up a bit before I swallowed. They went down with no problem.

If you currently take meds that are large pills, speak to your Dr about switching to a liquid form. And don't ever take your pills with cold drinks. The cold causes the stomach to draw up/shrink/spam whatever the correct term is.

You can buy pill crushers at a pharmacy or a Walmart type place which makes it possible to take any solid pills without any worries. Can't crush gel capsules though so I'm not sure about those.

I take Lexapro and Wellbutrin together in the a.m. I use a pill crusher. If you are on Wellbutrin however, you need to make sure from your doctor it can be crushed. One of the Wellbutrins cannot so he changed my prescription. I also take Geodon at night. I asked my doctor if they would go down and he said yes so those remain in capsule form. So far no problem with meds, but I haven't had a fill yet so we'll have to see.

I haven't had any problems with my medication. I take several tablets to control diabetes and the Glucovance are large. I take them one at a time and have had no problem to date. I was banded May 30th, 2006. My only problem has been that I can't seem to keep enough food in me to keep me from starting to 'shake' from low blood sugar and I am allergic to sugar ( I break out in a rash so a sugar pill as a quick fix isn't an option).

I haven't been banded yet, but I hope I don't have any problems because I take a pill for my heart everyday and they are extended release so they can't be crushed, and they are the only ones i can take, because the others give me asthma attacks. And I take prozac, and abilify. so i hope everything will be alright, because sudden stoppage of the heart pill, can actually induce a heart attack.

Any pills I take have to be cut into four pieces. My doctor did tell me that I could take the Tylenol Rapid Release gels. Here is a link to their website that has a little video to show how they work: http://www.tylenol.com/page.jhtml?id=tylenol/news/subprrg.inc. These I don't have to break, just take them. I haven't had to take any yet but like I said, they are recommended by my surgeon so I'm sure they are okay.

Right now I am taking chewable Centrum which are absolutely horrible, but I take them. Once they are gone I'll go back to my regular Centrums, just broken into 4 pieces.

I take five pills per day and am required to crush them. I started out putting the powder into applesauce but the bitterness got old fast. Now I take about 2oz of V8 juice and disolve the powder as much as possible. Then I swallow it quickly which prevents me from hardly tasting what is going down.

I eat a banana in the morning and when I'm ready to swallow I just put the pill in my mouth and it all goes down together. I take 4 different pills in different sizes and shapes and it works out just fine.

Kathy,

Does your surgeon approve of BC powders? I work in an emergency room and see lots of bleeding tummies from those boogers.

What are "BC powders"?

Thanks,

Mslynn

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
