hey ya'll....I am now 5 days post-op and I am having some serious cravings. I think I could hurt someone for some fajitas. I know it's probably just head hunger but I can honestly say at this point I am missing food. Did any of you struggle with craving food after surgery?? If so, did it pass and how did you deal with it?? I have been a volume eater my whole life and it has now sank in that I will never be able to eat like that again. Will I be able to enjoy food again and be satisfied with the small amount I will be able to eat??

I love food. I love food even more since my sleeve. I eat slower, smaller and enjoy every bit guilt free (mostly). Now I`m at 6 weeks I`m free to eat anything, so I do.

I was a volume eater and the sleeve is awesome as I get that full feeling after just 5 bites but it feels like I just had 2 pizzas all to myself.

Goodluck :laugh0:

I am 7 days out today. My husband and I have been cooking for him and the kids the last few days. I am missing food soooo bad. I have been on Clear Liquids the last week, and I get to start full liquids today. I made chili yesterday and am so tempted to magic bullet some into oblivion so I can taste it:drool5: ( I may have cheated a little yesterday by tasting the liquid off of it). I need to go make a Protein Shake and get some nutrients into me. That will probably ease some of the cravings. Good luck and stay strong.

I was always a volume eater too... For some reason at 5'2" I have spent the last 25 years trying to eat the same portion sizes as my 6' husband. I also never knew when to stop... if it tasted good or smelled good I ate... usually until my stomach hurt. The sleeve has been an AMAZING tool for me. I no longer stuff my self because I can't. As for those cravings and feeling hungry all the time... it is gone. It happened at about 5 or 6 weeks. One day I realized I just didn't crave food any more and I was no longer worrying about where my next meal was coming from.

Give it some time.... I wonder if it doesn't take awhile for the body to get rid of the grehlin? It has worked amazingly for me.

GOOD LUCK

Av

I still get hungry--not "head" cravings, but actual hungry rumblies and a feeing of emptiness. Starting my 4th week out I can eat 1 cup of soft solids--I hope that's not too much. After that I stay full for a long time. I've found that drinking crystal lite pretty much all the time between meals helps.

Oh, I know exactly what you mean! I was craving mustard, hot dogs and chipotle!lol The cravings have gone away now (I'm almost 4 weeks out), but I still miss the thought of eating large volumes of food. The first time I got to eat soft foods and filled up after a few bites, I nearly cried. The food tasted soooo good in my mouth and then it was over! I knew that t was going to be like that (getting full so quickly), but I didn't think that it would hit me so hard! I have to say that it is getting a bit easier, but it's hard.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
