HELP! Will insurance cover ER trip?

Recommended Posts

Thank you all so much for the kind words and concern!

Yes, I am definately going to write a letter to that doc and maybe one to Inamed. I'm not sure yet.

DonnaB, after PBing I had nothing at all each day that it happened, then did liquids for 2 days after. But each time I got to mushies it started hurting again. I never made it past mushies before I would PB again. My doc described it as a vicious cycle. Honestly, my sternum pain lasted through last night and I woke up and I feel 90% better. I am still swollen because I did have trouble eating a solid Breakfast and am still able to control portions without a fill, which is definately good.

I know it's scary to get unfilled, but I think I did learn through this to get an unfill as soon as you think you might need it. Don't wait, or you could hurt yourself and end up losing all of the fill. And I'm sure some others would interject that you may lose your band as well. I was lucky, CT scan and Upper GI showed my band still perfectly placed.

:P Kristin

Thanks Kristin,

My fill was under fluoroscopy and the band was in the correct position. I talk to my doctor every day and, since the pressure is becoming less and less, we're waiting till my TOM is past to decide whether or not to do a slight unfill.

I'm glad you're starting to feel better. I'm suprised that you're already back to solid food! My fill doctor made me wait for 7 days post-fill to eat solid food again. Hmmmm. It's weird how they all think something different. Personally, I think the 7 days is to help boost his weight loss stats.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
