Another Q for Mexico Sleevers....

Recommended Posts

....for those that went alone, did anyone drive?

I'm still exploring all the options, and I am still not 100% sure it is sleeve (more due to financials than desire!).

I'm scared that no one in my life will support my decision, so I may have to drive myself. Is this possible? I mean, going home? You can't drive w/ narcotic pain meds....and I would never dare even if it wasn't illegal...but are you still on them when you leave Mexico? Or are you on just liquid tylenol type stuff?

My surgeon said you could drive as soon as you were off pain meds. I stayed in a hotel for 4 days after surgery before driving home, and I'm glad I did. I went through the surgery alone. Other people might have different perspectives/recommendations, but this is how it worked for me.

I flew to San Diego and then was picked up by the clinic and taken back to the airport. Had Surgery on Friday towards evening. Then flew home on Monday. When I got home I had to drive an hour from the airport to my house, and it was no problem at all. However I didn't need anything for pain after about noon on Saturday.

I was pretty out of it.. I honestly am not sure I would have been able to drive myself.. I flew and then was picked up... Then taken back to the airport.. How far do you have to drive?

I was like Kathy : ) Didn't need meds after a couple of days. I flew home and was picked up, so didn't need to drive, but I could have.

Can you fly from Arizona to Mexico? Southwest is usually pretty cheap and you can change flights if you need to.

Or - how about taking a couple of days to drive home if necessary? Drive back to the states the first day ... and then see how you do??

My would recommend having a small pillow for your lap tho. It is supportive as well as might protect your stomach if you do have to stop fast. My doctor suggested that after having other abdominal surgeries. I used one on the plane also and during the first week or so at home.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
