Cknorte 7 Posted August 3, 2010 Out of 2 of my incisions I have what looks like fishing wire sticking out of the very end of my incision....it is maybe 1/16 of an inch...barely anything....sort of like a thorn...it feels like hard plastic fishing wire/string.... I am assuming this is some of the dissolvable suture coming up for air.....so.... I'm calling the surgeon's office tomorrow....but have any of you had that? I don't know if I should clip or pluck out.....or maybe just leave alone and eventually it'll wear down..... Any wisdom from out there is welcome!:scared0:
brittu 42 Posted August 3, 2010 You can clip it, I've done that (I've had 6 abdominal surgeries). When they first appear they're still attached at the other end. If you'll try to pull on it you'll see what I mean. The nylon ones take longer to dissolve but will eventually pull out.The ones that are more string like seem to come out sooner. Cknorte 7 Posted August 3, 2010 Thanks....I'll clip them with some nail clipper so that they are flush with skin.... :scared0:
Lori21769 14 Posted August 4, 2010 I had two ends clipped off by my surgeon. I still have one that is just barely poking, but enough so I notice it. It is not really long enough to clip.

possumtrot 2 Posted August 5, 2010 lol, my name is possumtrot and I am a stich spitter. Perhaps you are too. Whenever I have to have internal stitches that are supposed to disolve, my body regards them as enemies and rejects them. I've given up being upset over it...it is what it is. I just clip them if they are uncomfortable or I wait until they are pullable. Only after they are out does my body really heal.
eriadne 6 Posted August 5, 2010 I had one stitch sticking out like that for the longest time (at least a month out) on my lower right incision. I finally took some fingernail clippers to it and clipped it flush with my skin, because it was freaking me out how it was catching on my hand or shirt whenever I touched it. After that I forgot about it and noticed that it healed over at some point. My surgeon noticed it at both my 2 week and 1 month appointment and wasn't concerned in the slightest. He said it'd go away eventually and not to worry about it. I just clipped it so it wouldn't bother me anymore!
