Globetrotter 1,340 Posted July 30, 2010 I remember before I had surgery everyone here saying that you go through a period of slight diarrhea after surgery followed by a period of Constipation. Well, everyond was correct! So now what do I do with the constipation? I basically only go #2 every 3 days and I am painfully backed up, I can feel the trapped um, matter, in my lower intestines causing painful bloat. What to do? Afraid to take MoM with tender new tummy.
deedee 5 Posted July 31, 2010 Definitely check with your surgeon, but mine had me take Miralax (sp?). It still took something like 7 or so days before I went, but eventually I had movement. Now, and since about 6 months out, I have the complete opposite problem with some bouts of Constipation. Good luck!
pcindy 8 Posted September 18, 2010 I had MASSIVE constipation- felt like I'd given birth after a 45-min session of straining (should have weighed myself before and after!). After a couple of days of feeling like I'd been through a prison experience (if you know what I mean) where it hurt to sit, I broke down and bought some Colace. Boy oh boy did THAT do the trick! Pushing fluids as much as possible also of course. Whew! Then I went in the other direction. I'm getting back to normal now. Love your subject heading... makes me think of the Rocky Horror Picture Show!
coops 1,790 Posted September 18, 2010 Hey, I use linseed/flax seed in its normal form... a small spoonful, with a glass of water... works like a dream, nice and easy!!! x
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted September 18, 2010 Miralax is a life saver. I don't take a full doseage of it, but my dr. says it's safe to take every day. It mixes well and you can't taste it. Just start taking it every day.
emilygrace 5 Posted September 19, 2010 Couple of things have worked - firstly, magnesium oxide tablets. Just take one and wait, don't do what I did and think it didn't work and take a second one.. I'm just sayin'.... Second, and this was unintentional - but there are sugar free fruit popsicles called Edy's Fruit Bars with real fruit. I ate about 6 of them over the course of a day, and had fairly immediate issues with having to run to the toilet and have ongoing diarrhea for several hours. Guess they really have fruit in them!
