Yeah, it's a band thing.

It's a foamy, frothy, mucousy, retching type of vomit.

It's caused by eating too fast, eating too much, not chewing your food to the consistency of applesauce, eating some food your tummy isn't ready for, dry food without a slider, etc.......

The body begins to produce large quantities of mucus/saliva to help things along.

One of the first signs of trouble can be a runny nose indicating that you're getting FULL. This is your body basically telling you one more bite could be trouble.

Chew your food well

Take your time eating - Put the fork down between bites

Use sauces, etc with dry foods such as chicken, steak, tuna.< /span>

For me, it's a horrible slimy feeling that suddenly comes up into my mouth and I have to immediately go throw up. I have had it happen 3 times so far and don't want it to happen again.

As soon as I feel I shouldn't take another bite, I STOP !! If I don't...slime

If I chew too fast...slime

If I don't chew enough...slime

Drink something to soon after my last bite....slime

Eat bread, or some other starchy food.....slime

If it happens to you once, you will know what it is. It is NOT pleasant !!

As far as the runny nose, I never got that. Just the immediate feeling of slime in my mouth from my stomach. JUST AWFUL !!!

It doesn't just happen with a band.

If you eat too much, your body produces a very thick saliva to help the food pass out of your stomach. Your mouth fills up with it, and it's better to spit it out rather than swallow it. Swallowing it just makes it worse.

It's a learning process to eat with a sleeve. Once you learn how much to eat, this does not happen nearly as often.

I wish it were just a band thing:( It has happened to me 6 times and I vomited 4 of those. Ive never seen anything like what comes up. It was a large amount of really thick looking clump of spit. It was so gross yuk!!

First, Thanks Sunshine for asking that question as I was wondering the same thing myself. Second "GROSS", I really am going to work on eating slower, and taking smaller bites. So maybe by the time I have my surgery I wont slime.

Hi I am researching WLS and am seriously looking at it with the goal that once everything is healed up with VSG or Vertical Plication, you can be somewhat normal. My hope is that quantity of food limited, but that as long as you chew well and don't stuff yourself, you'll be fine. I thought sliming only came from lapbands. I also thought that one could eat bread (or anything else) when healed up with the Sleeve. Please let me know you thoughts and experiences. It is possible to just eat small amounts (maybe drink too w/food once you've lost the weight?) without all this gross sliming?

You are not supposed to drink while eating even if you are at goal. You can do it if you want to, but your food passes through your stomach much faster and you will be hungry again soon and you can eat more. It's a very slippery slope to get that habit started.

In the beginning, when you're fresh out of surgery, you won't have room for any liquid while you're eating. You'll only be able to eat a few bites, and drinking will make you sick.

It is a permanent thing, if you eat too much. You have to remember the stomach that is left is very tiny. If you fill it up too much, there is nowhere for the food to go. Making slime is your body's only line of defense to try to help digest food so there is room in there.

Do you remember when you have the stomach flu and right before you vomit, your mouth gets all watery? It's similar to that.

That being said, now that I am past one year, it rarely happens to me anymore. I know how much I can eat and I don't over do it. Like I said before, eating with the sleeve is a learning process. It takes awhile to learn though, unless you plan to take a measuring cup with you every time or everywhere you eat.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
