oskensmiles 0 Posted July 29, 2010 Good evening everyone - have just found this site and am delighted! Im sure this problem is not new to many of you but its a daily problem to me. I had my VSG 8 weeks ago today.... feeling great, with more energy and already smaller sized clothes. My problem is severe acid attacks and heartburn. I havent been able to establish what - if anything is triggering the discomfort but need help to tackle this ASAP. Any ideas? osk:confused1:
laylasmojo 10 Posted July 29, 2010 did your Dr. prescribe prilosec or some other acid reducer?
Maddie 9 Posted July 30, 2010 If your dr didn't prescibe something like prilosec or nexium, you can get them OTC until you can get something from your dr. If you are taking something like that already, then I would suggest calling the dr. and letting him know it's not working properly.
Lookinupin2010 0 Posted July 30, 2010 Definately call your Dr. Acid can cause ulcers in our new little tummies. My Dr. said that I have just as much acid as in my full (OLD) stomach, but less stomach. He prescribed Prevacid for the first month...but my insurance won't pay for it...It was $175 for one month. He now tells me to take Prilosec. Sometimes that doesn't help either, so I examine what I ate and take Gas X strips for emergencies. You want to take care of your new tummy. I must admit the acid problem was causing me great concern but Im being very careful now what I eat and drink - have even started a food diary which if nothing else makes me feel in more control. Globetrotter 1,340 Posted August 2, 2010 My acid comes regardless, as soon as something gets swallowed an acid attack at the base of my throat follows. It can be tea, cold Water, tepid water, Protein Shake, broth, very painful acid attack follows. I take the anti-spasm pill the doc gave me plus a tagamet and it seems to help. Does this ever go away? scary.
Donna4545 13 Posted August 2, 2010 Ask your doc for prescription Protonix, it works really well (at least for me). Prilosec is no match for really bad acid, in my experience.
