where is my period? for the ladies...

Recommended Posts

i had surgery june 15th. about a week after surgery, i started my monthly cycle....a week early.

i stopped for about a day, then started my normal monthly cycle.

all along, i have been taking my birth control pills daily (my doc said it was fine). we've also been using condoms until my cycle is back to normal.....however, there was one day where we didnt.

i started my inactive pills on saturday and here it is wednesday and still nothing. i'm due to get an IUD put in, but i have to start my cycle first.... i spotted yesterday and thought i was starting, but still nothing!

in a way, i'm starting to get nervous and wondering if i should take a pregnancy test to ease my mind..... i thought i would never look forward to get a period, but i am this time.

I have read of other women having irregular cycles after surgery for the first couple months. I hope that helps a little. Never hurts to get a test to verify.

I would check just to see if you are or arent pregnant.

I know my doctor warned me my periods may become wierd for the next few months but should start getting a "normal" cycle.

Hope all works out of you

I have experienced irregular periods with prior weightloss ... this time I have weightloss and surgery so things are VERY messed up for cycles. Although, as I say that, I am not on pills so I would think that would help some.

I say, expect irregular as the "norm", but take a test just to ease your mind. You have enough going on without worrying about Am I? or Aren't I?

Let us know the result ... hope we can say "Congratulations on NOT being Pregnant"!

It'll take a couple of months to regulate everything even on the pill. I would bet if you took a pregnancy test, and it comes out negative, you'd start.

If you're stressing, it's going to make it worse because of the hormone flux plus the anesthesia, surgery trauma, and all that stuff your body has endured is trying to play catch up with your cycle.

I had surgery the same day as you, however i was told to stop my birth control 2 weeks before surgery, and last week i was told i could start again when i have my next period...... only thing is ....... havent had one! not for 6 weeks, since i went of the bc before surgery. i think its because im losing weight because weight fluctuations can affect the menstral cycle.

I stopped mine once the last pack was finished right before my surgery date. I didn't have a period for 2 months! I was really worried for awhile. Your cycle will be messed up for a long time but use a "back-up" method for sure!!

A lot of times even with out surgery you can miss one due to stess but go get a test just to get that one more stress of not knowing out of the way! Good luck!

have any your doctors discussed if you actually DID get pregnant a week or two after surgery what the potential dangers might be?I've had two of them house urinal tests and both came up positive!!so i went and got an HCG done and i'm waiting for the results later on today..worried to death, it would be my first pregnancy too.

I have not personally. But, the number one piece of advice I've seen, read, and had confirmed with my ob/gyn is that you have to get out of ketosis. Meaning, you have to eat carbs, take your Vitamins, and do your very best to get in calories.

The baby will get what it needs from your body. You have to ensure that you feed your body so you physically will not suffer.

How far out are you from surgery? And, how far along would you be if you are pregnant? Could you have been possibly pregnant right before or during surgery and the test just not come back positive that most surgeons require a couple of days before surgery?

thank you soo much for your helpful info. So my blood tests came out positive and it was confirmed by my gynecologist that i AM actually pregnant with my first baby!!!i'm sooooo excited, worried, scared & sooooo many other mixed feelings(happiness being the strongest of'em)what i was worried about was the what i heard from people that general anesthesia would hurt the baby, but thankfully my doctor assured me things will be just fine, since i have concieved around 8 or 9 days prior to my VSG which was on the 19th of this past month and my last period was on the 27th of june, now my main concern is nutrition for me and my baby since of today i could start eating soft foods but what worries me is am i getting enough nutrients for both of us, another concern is, will my body still continue to lose weight while i'm still preggo(since it WAS the main reason i ahd VSG)soooo much on my mind :S

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
