christa94 0 Posted June 5, 2006 does anyone every add thick-it to liquids to make them have more of a texture so that they will be more like solids? you know, like the consistency of applesauce?
PhotoNut 7 Posted June 5, 2006 Nope.. its made of corn starch and that sweet glue, maltodextrin (derived from corn starch).
christa94 0 Posted June 5, 2006 and that would add too many calories to the diet? okay.
PhotoNut 7 Posted June 5, 2006 Looks like it adds 35 calories per 2 Tbs. Do that three times in a day and youre looking at an additional 100 calories. I know it doesn't sound like much, but 100 calories could "buy" you some great Protein that will help you stay full longer.
christa94 0 Posted June 5, 2006 i'll take your word at it. you seem to be doing really well with this. i like to learn from those that have already journeyed the path.
PhotoNut 7 Posted June 5, 2006 *chuckles* Don't just take my word for it. Do what I do and google it! Before ya eat anything, find out what it really is and what its nutritional value is. Most products provide a list of the contents and nutritional values. Here's a great site for ya that will help a lot: www.nutritiondata.com
christa94 0 Posted June 5, 2006 i saw someone else post about drinking low calorie Protein Drinks. is that something that we bandsters should have? i know 3 folks that had the gastric bypass. and they are supposed to drink this whey Protein Shake everyday to help with Protein intake. does that apply to us as well? PhotoNut 7 Posted June 5, 2006 Protein Shakes are an important part of the liquid and mushy phases of the post-op diet, but I get all of my Protein from fish, chicken, cottage cheese, and beef so I don't need the suppliment. If you can get between 60-100 grams of protein per day with your food (animal protein, not vegetable protein) you shouldn't need to worry about needing a suppliment.
