Something unexpected.....

Recommended Posts

So, I'm on my last day of the liquid diet. And I started early and went ahead and had a SF pudding (yum). But, as soon as I ate it (which only took 3 minutes...is that normal?), I felt guilty. I felt like...."Oh my gosh, if I eat food instead of just drinking broth, etc.....I'm not going to lose weight".

Is this a normal fear?...or the beginning of a small eating disorder.

Please don't laugh, I know it's a silly question.

I think it's normal to have these kind of thoughts when you stray from your diet. Maybe it's because we already have half convinced ourselves that we will be the one this surgery doesn't work for. As for the pudding, at least it wasn't ice cream or a hamburger.:) I think you'll be fine. :wink0:

Mary...you literally took the words out of my mouth. I told my husband tonight (as I ate my Protein infused Jello for dinner while they had a nice hot meal) that I thought 'I' would be the 'ONLY" one who doesn't lose weight from this surgery.

I haven't 'cheated' badly. Just a nibble here and there. Nothing substantial AT ALL. But...even a taste of something not allowed makes me feel as though I have cheated.

pudding is on my Full Liquid list of foods I can eat (and BOY OH BOY is it good). We went to a chinese restaurant today for lunch and I had 'Egg Drop Soup'..which is also allowed on my Full liquid diet. YUUUUUM

It's just that if I eat ANYTHING.....I think, "Boy, if I continue to eat, I'm never going to lose weight".

But, I'm glad you have had the same thoughts (that sounds bad....but you know what I mean). I'm not the only one who has thought that.

Thanks Donna!!!!....I'm lovin' the pudding!

I know what you mean Sunshine. I'm barely moving from clears to full liquids and I had the same emotion. My surgeon wants me to take in 600 cals a day and now that I'm experimenting with fulls I'm able to get past 400 for the first time since surgery. Just getting close to 600 brought up all kinds of fat-girl-who-never-lost-alot-of-weight anxieties and issues. I mean, that's nuts - 600 calories isn't enough to keep a gerbil alive so there was no need for anxiety but, there it was. You didn't fall off any horse of any kind, you ate as prescribed - so did I, we have to remember that it is O - K. :tongue_smilie:

Globetrotter....I'm glad I'm not alone in this thinking. My husband thinks it's silly....but he's not the one who had the 20 year struggle with weight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
