EAS and Optimum Nutrition Protein Powders

Recommended Posts

Anyone try EAS or Optimum Nutrition Protein powders? From what I have read, protein isolate is the best, and I am looking for something that tastes good and has the biggest protein bang! I like sweet flavors like chocolate :)

I purchased "Optimum Nutrition 100% whey Gold Standard - Double Rich Chocolate" from Amazon since it had very strong reviews and was one of the best deals (if you sign up for Subscribe and Save you get 15% off so I ended up paying about $33 for 5 lbs. It will last about a month if you have two scoops a day, each scoop has 24g protein, and if you drink it with 8oz of milk each time t will give you 64g of protein for the day at the very least, plus some additional Calcium.

I would recommend it to someone starting out - Although calling it "double rich" is stretching it a bit, it's definitely chocolate and I enjoy it quite a bit. As time goes on and I can move to different foods I definitely want to play with my shakes, maybe add some pureed banana, espresso or some flavor syrups, but while I'm just getting the hang of things this powder is great.

to me the myoplex is just 'ok'. the RTD's are too sweet for me, and don't have quite that chocolate flavor. I think this is because of the variance of ingredients in powder vs. RTDs (because RTD's can sit on a shelf)

personally, Optimum Nutrition is good. It gives you variety (tons of flavors!!) and is reasonable priced. I also tend to just stick to GNC's brand of vanilla/chocolate whey isolate. if i'm on the run i can just mix my milk and powder together and drink it w/o adding syrups, fruit or other flavors. hope you find a good one!

I use EAS all the time. I blend it with ice and it makes a great shake. I too love the chocolate flavores and it is even better when I use frozen fruit instead of the ice. My favorite is adding frozen strawberry's with the chocolate. :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
