erikavonne 4 Posted September 8, 2010 It's a good idea to save more than you think you'll need. I've been surprised by extra expenses these last 2 weeks before surgery. Today it was $280 doctor's fee + $30 copay + $40 bariatric Vitamins + $40 bariatric Protein Powder from the surgeon's office. I just found out last week that my insurance will only cover 90% and I have to cover the other 10% - which is $3,300!!! (Apparently, the hospital I'm going to bills for the max amount insurance will pay...regardless of the true cost???) I can't believe it's $33K when you can go to Mexico and get it done for a 1/3rd of that price! I know it's a lot less out of pocket than you all who are self-pay but I really wasn't prepared for all extra money needed. (Hit up the retirement account). :001_unsure:
AutumnLily 77 Posted September 8, 2010 I have an account that I do not have a bank card for. Makes it harder to get the money. Then I have a direct debit from my regular bank account on each payday for about 200$ or whatever you can spare. It adds up fast when you forget about the money in the cardless account. currysusan123 2 Posted September 8, 2010 My cash price was 12900. Plus 250 consult and ?200 Psyc eval. I only work Jan. - April at a tax office. I saved at least 1/2 my income and 2 yrs tax returns. I just told husband since insurance wouldnt pay and he wouldn't help me get a loan that my pay check was not for bills... it is for my dream that I have had for over 10 years....I had a few $ set backs like husband getting laid off for a month and we had to use my money to live. Then when he was back working he got a loan for a $20,000 boat that he somehow forgot that he needed 1600. tax money for...guess where that came from. RANT RANT...Anyway, you can save it...it can be done. Its your dream and you can find a way to make it happen. I think I appriciate my surgery more because I worked so hard for it. I didn't have insurance to pay my way. I PAID $12,900 CASH....:001_unsure:
Steph 0 Posted September 8, 2010 :001_smile:This is what BeLiteWeight wrote me: "Unless your credit is outstanding we ask for 3,500 down for the band and 4,500 for the sleeve. Let me know if you'd like to apply." It's in house finance for Dr. Rod and as little as $200 dollars a month for the rest of the payment. This is okay but if I save up half then I could probably get the rest from my local credit union. hope this helps.
VioletZone 0 Posted September 13, 2010 Having just bought a house last year and spent the better part of my salary filling it up, I didn't have any money in savings to pay out of pocket when I decided to "go for it" with VSG. I actually used Prosper.com to get a loan for 1/2 of the amount needed for surgery with Dr. Aceves on October 18, 2010. I could have waited longer and saved the money in just a few more months, but didn't want to wait. For anyone not familiar with Prosper.com, it's a peer-to-peer lending website. It's definitely legitimate, because I have the cash sitting in my bank account as I get ready for surgery day. (And FYI, I don't work for Prosper.com LOL) So....just one more option out there.
