Utahgal 0 Posted July 23, 2010 I was reading the thread on complications and many listed dehydration that required hospitalization or ER visits. Is there anyone out there who went to Mexico as a self pay patient that has had to visit the ER or be hospitalized once home? If so, I am curious what a trip to the ER for dehydration costs or a hospitalization for that matter? I would just like to know what I may be looking at financially if that were needed. If there are others who've had other complications that would like to share their complications and out of pocket expenses, I would really appreciate that information as well. Thanks to everyone in advance for responding!
MINI-Me 196 Posted July 23, 2010 Even though WLS may not be covered by insurance, many items related to the surgery are covered. If the ER simply coded the visit as dehydration, insurance would cover it. I was self-pay, but fortunately didn't have any complications that required f/u care. Insurance did pick up my pre-op testing and pysch visit. They also covered my 3 month post-op labs.
mila1013 0 Posted July 23, 2010 while every insurance policy is differnt, weight loss surgery and true complications are mutually exclusive. if you have wls and you are indeed dehydrated and go to the ER or are admitted that is a true "emergency" and the diagnosis of dehydration is made and you are give IV fluids and that really should have no bearing on them paying for that er visit.
