Approval question?? so do I stop my meds

Recommended Posts

Has anyone been told you might not be approved if your health risks are

being controlled by meds? I am going through Kaiser HMO.

I have not heard of anything like this.. you would think it would be another factor in why you should be approved for the surgery.

i'm also in a kaiser hmo. my understanding is it's blood thinners -- aspirin, advil, anti-inflammatories -- that need to be stopped 30 days prior to surgery, but your surgeon will tell you what you can and can't take prior to surgery. almost everybody in my options class had health risks that were being controlled by medication and that was the #1 reason those people were choosing to have surgery. in the end, though, only your surgeon can give you the complete information you need.

I don't have Kaiser but my understanding from my nurse case manager before surgery was that they are interested in whether you have co-morbidities - not whether they are controlled by meds. Who told you that?

I dont have Kaiser but that would be a strange reason to be denied. One of the reasons for getting surgery is to reduce/get rid of your co-morbidities.

I have never heard of not getting approved because you have co-morbidities that are controlled by meds--in fact that is usually part of the reason why you DO get approved!
