What Size Should I/He Buy?

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

Hoping for some help from those that have reached their goal weight!

My husband has told me he would like to go out and buy me a "special" dress, in the final goal size, so once I fit into it, he can take me out for a special evening of dancing!

My problem? I've never been 145lbs as an adult, so I have NO IDEA what size dress to tell him to choose for me! I'm 5'7 inches. If I weigh 145lbs, what size dress would I be wearing?

Help!!!

I'm 5'9", and at 145 I wear a size 4 - 6 depending on the cut of the dress. So I would think at 5'7", you would be a 6 - 8. I would recommend a gift certificate from that sweet hubby of yours to buy the dress later, or go to a used clothing shop with good quality dresses (even though it looses a little something of the newness) so you can have it in the closet to look at every so often.

Good luck with your weight loss!

I'm 5/7 also, and I too was going to say 6-8 depending on your body type. With dresses that are fetted through the waist I can wear smaller, but if they are fitted in the hips and butt I need larger (yup..i'm a pear). Right now I'm 163 and 8/10 on top and 12 on the bottom.

I have found that when I buy things too small for "goal cloths" sometimes they don't fit exactly right when I reach that size. Not to worry though. You can always take it to the cleaners and have this or that seem taken in. And.... believe it or not.... you'll get there

I don't think there's any way to know for sure because everyone's body is different shapes at different weights, even if they are the same height. Maybe instead of trying to base it on your goal weight, choose a dress size that means something to you. For me, it was a size 12 because I've never been that dress size. Even though realistically I will be smaller than a 12 when I'm done, that size is still looking very small to me and I'll be thrilled when I fit into it. I have been a 14 before - but only on TOP, was still a 20 on the bottom, so size 12 DRESS will be way way smaller for me.

Hope this helps :)

I wouldn't buy a dress now, because you never know how your inches are going to distribute--I think the gift certificate idea was good--it lets you get a gift now so to speak, but also be able to try on dresses when the time comes so you get the perfect dress. Also styles change--another reason to wait.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
