juliek 0 Posted June 5, 2006 I haven't had a problem with straws, but I waited about 4 months before using one. You get more air when you drink with a straw, so that could initially cause some gas problems on top of the gas you will have from the surgery. I would say wait a few weeks, then give it a try and see how you do.
vinesqueen 2 Posted June 5, 2006 I've never, ever had a problems with a straw while banded. Personally, I get *less* air with a straw that just drinking out of a glass. Silly straws for everyone!
Tricia K. 0 Posted June 5, 2006 I love drinking my iced lattes or iced coffees with a straw. For some reason, they just taste better that way. So...to answer your question, I've had no problems with them.
Kat817 19 Posted June 5, 2006 My meal trays in the hospital had straws on them. It was liquid meals, but a meal tray none the less!! My Dr. had no issue with using them. I have used them every day. Good luck to you, in my opinion this is nothing to worry about! Kat

skbishop78 0 Posted June 6, 2006 I asked my doc about the whole straw thing because I read somewhere on here that we couldn't use them...and he laughed at me..course I ask him the craziest "what if" questions you could think of. He always just smiles and says...no Stacey its fine! But he said the straws should never cause a problem.
