Has anyone else had nausea?

Recommended Posts

It's not anything protracted, but sometimes (I still haven't figured out a pattern), I'll just suddenly realize, "Oh shit, it's coming up!" and barely make it to the bathroom in time. Then I heave for a couple minutes, and I'm fine again. I haven't felt like it was worth taking anti-nausea medication for, because it doesn't happen often enough to make the side-effects of the medication worth the hassle! The abdominal soreness at my incision sites is the worst, actually. Also, nothing comes up but whatever Fluid I was sipping the few moments prior to the sudden attack. No fever, nada. I've got my post-op appointment tomorrow with the surgeon and I intend to ask about it. I'm mostly just curious to see if anyone else has run up against this.

I kinda have the same thing. Especially when I get up in the morning, I feel really bad. I'm guessing it's because I'm so dehydrated waking up!

You need to avoid heaving as much as possible since your stomach is freshly stapled and needs to heal without stress. I say take the nausea medicine IF it will keep you from vomiting. I dealt with nausea the first couple of weeks but it didn't make me vomit so I didn't take anything after I left the hospital.

I've had problems getting nauseated easily most of my life (car sick in mountains, sea sick, sick on planes, etc...) so it didn't surprise me that I was nauseated off and on for a couple weeks after surgery. I didn't want to take a chance on damaging my staple line by vomiting, so I took Zophran at bedtime for 3 weeks because if I didn't, I would wake up in the early morning hours feeling pretty sick. I occasionally took it during the day if I was feeling queasy. By week 3 I was just taking 1/2 dose at bedtime and none during the day. By week 4, the nausea had passed completely. I didn't really notice any side effects from the medication and it worked wonders. I haven't thrown up one time since surgery. The sublingual tablets are easy to take and they work pretty quickly.
