Am I being lazy?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on the 16th, came home on the 19th, so I guess that makes me 5 days postop today. I feel great, but have been just kind of taking it easy - learning to "eat" and get used to my new life. I managed to get a week off of work, and now I am feeling guilty because I am just kind of lounging around.

Should I be exercising already? I have thought about going for a short walk during the day, but it has been nearly 100 degrees here every day. Am I being lazy? I would appreciate any hearing any thoughts anyone would like to share on this.

Thanks so much

Kathy

Hi Kathy and congrats on your surgery! I found walking helped alleviate the gas that was bound up in me causing me terrible pain. They highly recommended walking & sipping liquids!!!! So maybe go to a mall or something indoors to walk:hurray: it will be to your Advantage!!! Go luck, get ready....Start:biggrin0:

Its hard right after surgery because you just want to GET THE BALL ROLLING ALREADY. Your time will come to do lost of exercise and weigh all the options when making food choices. Right now is your time to rest and heal. Walking is always good, but save the big stuff for later.

I exercised starting day 2, as this was part of the program we were given to follow. It was only a 15-minute walk, but I do think it is good to start SOMETHING. For me, it is still important for me to do some type of exercise at least 5 days a week. Of course I do a lot more than a 15-minute walk, but I find it is easy to get out of the exercise habit. I know myself, and if I don't keep it up I will slowly come to a halt. This is after 1 year and half since surgery. I go through times when I love exercise and can't wait, and then times when I have to force myself. Getting in the habit of it helps me tremendously.

In my opinion, you are recovering from a major surgery. I'm all about walking, but let's be really honest, our bodies need rest just as much as it needs movement to recover fully.

Walk every hour, carry a Water bottle with you, and then rest. I walked up and down my hallway, and dusted my house when I wanted to get up and move around a bit. Walking is so boring, and having a dust towel, and some Pledge in hand helped.

Thanks everyone - I will just relax and enjoy a few more days resting and healing before I go back to work on Saturday. I think my brain has a tendency to believe I am going to fail like I have on every other diet. Time to retrain the brain.

If you're not walking because you're not feeling quite recovered and energetic, then no, you're not being lazy, you're being sensible.

if you're not walking becuase its 100 degrees, that's a *little* lazy lol! Its that all summer here in Melbourne, if I let it stop me, I'd never get any exercise. But I'm joking a little, when you're overweight and not very fit, its a lot to ask of a healing body to sweat it out in the hot sun. Dont go out in the middle of the day in that sort of heat, that's nuts. You have to wait till its cooler and the sun's in a bit. Get up early or go at dusk.

But its all about when you're ready and strong enough.

I'm 8 days out and today was the first time I did any exercise beyond walking around the house. I'm in such bad shape I'm starting with Richard Simmons Sweatin' to the Oldies DVDs--it's about all I can handle lol!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
