Sleeved on July 16th and feeling great!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!!

I was sleeved on the 16th instead of the 15th thanks to some wonderful flight delays in Mexico by Dr. Almanza. I got home around midninght last night, took a shower to wash Mexico off of me lol and fell into bed - I slept like a princess in my big comfy bed - it felt soooooo good to be home! I am having zero pain, and the good night's sleep in my own bed did wonders for my tired feeling.

I have felt a little weird at home today. My head and body are used to thinking about or eating all the time. I found myself to be really restless and kept thinking I wanted to have something but when I would make myself stop and ask if I was really hungry, I wasn't. Changing that sort of thinking is really going to be a big deal for me. Tomorrow I think I will make a little better plan for the day - I don't go back to work till Saturday and I need to get off my butt and try to work out some schedules for days that I work and days that I am off.

This has been a truly lifechanging experience for me and there were a few moments when I was a little terrified lol, but with a few days behind me I am again positive that this was a good thing to do - and I made some really great friends with other "sleevers" when I was there. I will post my experience later, I think I am still trying to absorb everything, so you will have to give me a a bit :cursing:

Thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way, answered all of my silly little questions and just listened when I talked.

Kathy

I'm so glad you're back and doing well, Kathy! I want the whole story, sometime, though! It seems like Saturday is soon to go back to work, how many days off is that?

Saturday will be 8 days post op. I think I will do fine, I am a charge nurse so I can get away without lifting if I have to. I'm actually kind of a little bored at home lol

When are you leaving?

Hey Kathy -- We leave in the morning. Early! I took 2 weeks off, but since I only work 3 days a week it's actually like 2.5 weeks that I will be off. I am hoping to get to do some fun stuff in my second week off since this is the only "vacation" I'm taking this summer. Maybe we can get together one of those days I'm off and share our stories. I hope I feel as good as you do in 8 days!

Yay, Kathy! I'm so glad everything went well for you! Getting the head hunger under control really is the hardest thing, though. Even though my tummy isn't hungry, my head still wants to hit the road to Taco Bueno! But it's just a bad habit I'm gonna have to quit. Are you having any pain or nausea? What was Dr. Almanza's clinic like? Again, SO glad you're home and ok

I know what you mean, when I was on the way home I would have bought a piece of pizza and just LICKED it!!!! Head hunger is definately a very real thing.

Almanza's clinic was fine - It's not like the US, you won't get all the shiny, newest stuff but it was clean and it worked. They were fanatical about cleaning, almost to the point that the smells were getting to me. The staff was very attentive, there was a little bit of a language barrier but not too bad.

We totally need to chat some time and compare our experiences.

Kathy - so glad you are home. I kept checking on you and was sure glad to hear from you. Sounds like everything went well. I'm anxious to hear all about it when you are up to it. I'm finishing up psyc evaluation and have to have an EGD scope/biopsy and then I get my surgery date. Hopefully August or September.

Kathy, I'm so glad everything went well. How do you do post op doctor visits when you have your surgery in Mexico? Take care and keep us posted.

I am not anticipating any post op problems, however if anything comes up I will see my regular Dr. and the surgeon that works with him. I do plan to see my doc at least once a year for labwork, I didn't tell him before I went, but we have worked together for about 12 years and I am confident that he will be happy for me and try to take good care of me.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
